1986 Ford Ranger Shutting down!!!!!

I used the old gasket and took a piece of it off cuz it was old. So somewhere in there, the upper manifold does not have a complete gasket.

That would probably be your problem, then.

Yay I replaced the gasket and the rpms are normal again :yahoo: But when i accelerate it shakes usually after first gear. It has nothing to do with the intake as it was doing before I removed it. Any ideas?

Like I said before, make sure your u-joints are good. Bad ones will cause shaking.

Also, do this: start the truck, wait for truck to idle down, then floor the gas pedal for a split second. It should rev up without any hesitation.

If it sputters or anything, then there is a problem that we need to address. But try that and post your results.

Pulled on the drive shaft and it doesn't move so i guess the u joints are fine. Or do i have to pull them out and check them? I floored the gas pedal and there was no hesitation sounded fine too! I have no clue?
:icon_welder: + :icon_confused: = :bawling:

You don't have to pull them unless you think they're bad, in which case you pull them and check to make sure the needle bearings in the caps haven't disintegrated.

Is this thing a stick or automatic? I have one of each and they both shake a little in first gear. I am fairly sure that the problem in the stick truck is clutch or transmission related. Not sure about the other one. It isn't bad enough to concern me yet.

So I gave up and sent it to a mechanic :bawling: chraged me 105 bucks :bawling: I didn't want to make it worse and i will be getting the results tomorrow :headbang:

I had a similar problem with my '87 Ranger 4x4 with a 2.9. I would be running just fine down the highway and then suddenly the engine would die and then a few seconds later it would fire and run fine. Could never duplicate the failure for a mechanic. Finally the third shop I took it to replaced the ignition and have not experienced the problem again.

So the mechanic told me it was a friken faulty spark plug aaaahhhhh. I paid 108 bucks for him to tell me i had a faulty spark plug. I must be one unlucky sob since its rare to have a faulty spark plug :flipoff::pissedoff: Well at least it runs good now :yahoo:

Didn't you replace the spark plugs?
