1985 Ranger Fuel Pump Wiring

I running my truck the other day and it ended up just choking itself out and dying. After a quick investigation I noticed when priming before starting I could no longer hear the high pressure pump that is mounted on the frame. But I could hear the the pump in the fuel tank.

my question is: Is the lift pump (in the gas tank) and the high pressure pump wired in parallel? I plan on checking voltage to the pump and then giving direct power to the high pressure pump to see if the issue is the pump itself. But I was curious that if, in fact, they are wired in parallel it would be a fair warning sign that the one of the fuel pumps might have an internal fault if you can still hear the other.
 
For more background, it is a 4x4 1985 Ford Ranger with a 1988 T-bird 2.3T engine in it. Was originally a naturally aspirated 2.3
 
I believe we had something similar post up here a couple weeks ago. One pump running with relay removed. Concluded was yes both pumps are on the same circuit. Both should run in unison.
 
I can confirm. One circuit for both pumps. If one isn't running it's either a bad pump or broken wire.

Yes they run in parralell .. the fuse s should be 20 amp between the relay switch and the fuel pumps[bfor both pumps] this applies for the mid 80s models. It is easier to check the inline fuel pump on the rail with a volt meter disconnecting the positive wire which is usually orange and black striped. check to ground.. if no circut then check with light tester running the positive off the battery to positive on pump,, this will let u know whether the pump is any good or not and same with the lift pump.. Mine started making a loud buzzing noise last month and it croaked in 3 days ,, get ready to replace the inline fuel pump. I had to replace both lift pump and the HP pump and woumd up putting new relay switch and pig tails in the engine wiring. the terminals were corroded from where they were attached to the pluggin, I used JD1941 40 amp relay switch found on ebay
