1983-92 Third Brake Light Upgrade

In all the time in the yards I have never seen an explorer sport trac until yesterday... saw one yesterday - had to laugh at that tiny (less than 4' ??) bed... and I was so obsessed with my own parts list and time I didn't even think to look up at the 3rd brake, but it did have that tiny little truck bed and all the right back end slopes so I would guess it has the 3rd brake the same as rangers/super duty.

They are nice if you need more SUV than truck but occasionally would like to have a bed for things like appliances. Also, at the time those were made, short of going to an F150, you couldn't get four doors and 4 or 5 seats that someone other than someone less than, say 10 years old could use. The jumps seats and the extended cab in the Rangers are nice but let's face it, not very useful for most passengers.

Cost me 3 bucks to find out, but can confirm that Sport Trac uses these too.

Can admit to considering a ST in the past, but it just didn't check the right boxes. Maybe if I could have found a V8 Adrenaline in my price range. Even if I had, I probably wouldn't have been happy with the 4.6L.

Agreed on the jump seats. If I ever get around to doing an inter color change in my 99, I'm probably going to try to come up with a clean delete option. I could get the right panels for a 2 door at the pick-n-pull. I've heard that seat delete was an option on the 4 doors too, but have never seen one.

I did the seat delete on mine. The plastic panels that cover the rear of the cab look decent enough to the most part, as long as you don't look at the section where the brackets mount to the floor. I can take some pictures if you like.

The eventual plan is to build a wooden storage box with various sized cubbies to hold the stuff I store back there. It will make it more clean looking and hide what is stored back there. Not that anything back there is of high value. It's more of an "out of sight, out of mind kind of thing. I still need to consider what I'm going to do with the jack, tire iron, and the rods that store in the center of the rear panel. It might be a "I'll cross that bridge when I get there" kind of thing.

Pictures are always welcome, might help me get some ideas.

That ain't bad. If one were to replace the floor covering and not cut out for the seats, there's be almost nothing to see. Wouldn't take much to make it disapear completely.

That is sort of my solution outside of the storage box. I want to replace the carpet with vinyl floor covering instead anyway. All the carpet does it trap dirt, mud, and road salt anyway. And those bolts that used to hold the seat brackets will make great anchor point for the box.
