Is there a real dif between 145 and the 146 transmissions? I have a 90 BII and it has the 146 in it, It has a bad input shaft bearing, I can get a 145 for cheap, so my question is , will the 145 be worth putting in?:icon_confused:

I've been told that they're not that good. I had a A4LD that bit the dust last year & was told the same thing about it & was told to get a Mazda M5 R1 (M5OD). I've got about all my parts now to change it over. We'll see

Oh, by the way, nice looking ride!!

Thanks, she's solid, I couldn't believe when I found her on craigslist with a beat up ranger, seven hundred for both, ranger had bad Tranny and b2 had bad motor , weekend later she was going, now input shaft bearing noise is driving me nuts!

The FM145 is shorter than the 146. Enough so that the drive shafts don't interchange.

The M5OD on the other had, which is much stronger than either FM unit, is the same length as the 146.

If I use a m5od can I use the starter, flywheel and clutch, from the 2.9?

If you use an M5OD you can keep all of your current bell-housing area paraphernalia including the slave cylinder (replace the slave or you will be taking the trans out again in a few weeks).

The FM145 uses a different slave with a different style of hydraulic connection to the master cylinder line.

Thanks, all my bell-housing stuff is brand new, I leaned the hard way that the noise coming from the bell-housing could be more than just the throughout bearing,

Don't get the Mitsubishi. My second tranny was a Mitsubishi and it never really ran very good til the time when it blew up going down the road. Now I have a mazda.
