1350/1354 doubler

did you have to lengthen the stock manual 1354 linkage for everything to work?

ok cool thanks. Im on the lookout for a manual 1354 now.

one more Q, if I was to use the 4x4 output and the 1350 shaft to make a stub shaft, do I have to harden that as well? Or is it already hardend from the factory?

No. Those shafts are already hardened. This is why some of them fail. People just weld the shaft together without preheating it. After you have pressed it together with a 50 ton press, heat the shaft to 500F before you weld it. Have a 500F oil bath ready to go so when the welding is complete you can slowly cool it.

I have been running a two-piece shaft for years. Yesterday the Explorer was on stump pulling duty. I was giving her wide-open-throttle in double low for half a day. And I didn't even preheat my shaft.

cool, thanks for the info evan

hate to be a lurker and bring up a REALLY old thread but... does anyone/would anyone give me a price for the shaft? the one that has to be made... I'm just pricing this job out and so far i believe i can do everything else i just want to be sure the shaft is correct. thanks for the input. by the way CopyKat, that shift linkage setup is pretty sexy.
