I've got a '94 Ranger XL, 2.3L 5 Speed, 153K mi. My CEL has come on, so I ran a KOER test and got codes 116 (Engine Coolant Temp sensor out of range) and 332 (EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittantly). Is the ECT sensor the one that's connected to my dash? The temp gauge has never worked since I bought it 4 years ago, but never had a CEL for it. As far as the EGR, not sure where to begin.
When I start it in the morning to go to work, the light comes on, and most of the time turns off once the engine is up to temp. But until then, I had to lighten up on accelerating, it struggles to gain speed, mostly up small inclines. Once it warms up most of it goes away, I just can't floor it. The idle has been a little uneven too recently. The only thing I've done recently was my last oil change, I switched from 10W30 to 5W30, that's when the CEL came on.
Any ideas where I could start? This is the first time the CEL has come on since I've owned it and have never had any major problems with it.

Isn't that test supposed to be run with a warm engine?

At any rate I'd say test the sensors using a multimeter.

No, the ECT isn't the one for the dash. The ECT is a 2 wire sensor. The temperature gauge sender is a 1 wire unit.

I can't see the oil change causing problems unless it is thin enough to leak past an already severely worn seal. I think Ford recommends 5w-30 in almost everything now anyway. I know I had oiling problems using 10w-30 in an old 2.3 when it was super cold (for this area anything below 30F).

It seems unlikely, but did you knock any wiring loose when you changed the oil?

If you didn't have the engine at temp go ahead and ignore the coolant temp code.

The EGR code is the one you want to chase. I would suspect a wiring concern, or the vacuum solenoid is dying.
