$10k to spend

At the point of 30k I'd probably just buy a slightly used 19+..

I don’t know. I’m on the fence about that one. There is pros and cons with both directions.

30k is a LOT to spend on an old ranger.. coyote swapped or not.. especially If its just going to be set-up as a daily driver.

If it were some sort of purpose built rig like.. SAS with exo-cage or tubbed with a 9" and a trans brake.. it would be a different imo.. but all that money just to be "stuck" with something not really any more capable than a stock 3.0 truck.. not what I'd do personally.

Don't get angry with me @Roert42 ..I'll come down there and sweat on you.

Don't spend $30k on rebuilding a truck to DD because you can buy one for $45K that's kind of the same but not really?

I'm totally lost on the logic.

There really is not redeeming qualities of a '19 ranger over an '07, except being newer and having a more powerful engine. So if we can get what is essentially a brand new '07, but with a more powerful engine, for less then a 4 year old '19 ranger, where is the downside?

The 19+ trucks are more everything.

more powerful, more efficient, more towing, more capable offroad, safer, more refined, more comfortable, more room.. all in a footprint not that much bigger than an 07.

If I'm spending an amount of money that large on one vehicle, I'd want as much vehicle as I could get, as close go factory as possible, with as much warranty as possible.

I refuse your logic and substitute my own.

Does it have three pedals?

If not, it's a Kia.

No exceptions.

So I went to a shop nearby that does custom builds to talk about doing a V8 swap. To my surprise, he said he could put a 5.0 Coyote in my truck. I didn't think it would fit. He said he's done a couple old 302 in Rangers, and just did an LS swap last year, but has yet to do a Coyote engine in a Ranger. Problem is, it's gonna cost more than $10k! :( He won't do a project like this without touching the whole truck, ie suspension, electrical, body work and paint. I guess he has a reputation to keep up. He gave me a price of $25k-$30k! But like he said, it would basically be a brand new truck when he is done. Where can you get a new truck for under $30k? I could probably squeeze another $5k out of my wife, :sneaky: so I would need a loan for the other $15k. I would also need to buy something to drive while he has my truck. He said it would take a couple months. It's not like you see on TV where they build a car in under seven days! But how cool would it be to have a Ranger all done up with a 5.0 Coyote power plant? I'm seriously considering it!
I expect the guy that's doing it thinks it will be super cool, cha-ching! ;)

30k is cheap for a full package. especially if its nice. 45 k is more realistic.

i dont think that guy would make much at 35 k....

i think the truck is in good enough shape, he knows it wont kill him in time investment...... and it will so bad ass if he can swing the right parts, that he will be able to apply the experience to a wider range of profit producing vehicles... with other platforms where the owners love to spend excess frivolous cash.

so its an investment to do the truck cheap as an advertisement.

a coyote....even a gen 1....will be bad ass in an 07.

fresh coyote powered truck for 35 g.... whew.... hard to get past that.

Times have really changed Bobby. I hope you folks are doing well

Not sure where you get your numbers but the 3.0 only made 130-150 Hp. The 5.0 makes around 460 Hp. Unless you're talking about swapping in the new 3.0 Ecoboost which still only makes about 400Hp. My intention is to build a sleeper. The 5.0 would have the supercharger on it, ported/polished aluminum heads and custom headers/exhaust. Add a custom tune and it can easily reach upwards of 500-550 Hp. Putting a transmission behind it that can handle that power and a rear end with disc brakes will eat up at least $20k. Add custom suspension, body work ad paint will be another $10k easily! Put that beside a 2019 and mine will trip the win light every time. Besides all that, I like the 2003 Ranger better than the new ones. I mean, they are nice and all, but I just prefer that generation. To have a Ranger that I like and will run down most other muscle cars for $30k is a dream come true.

Right on.. mabey I just hadn't of been reading closely enough but my impression was that you were pretty much just after some simple daily transport... and not so much a purpose built bitchin ass 'race truck'

I will ALWAYS support the spending of money on any sort of 'bitchin ass' race ANYTHING... so you go gettem!
