1.7:1 roller rockers & 5.0L hydraulic roller lifters


Install completed. Fired the truck up last night after priming the fuel system and she was purrin within a couple minutes. Those roller rockers make the truck so quiet (with an electric fan too) that the intake "suction" is the most dominant noise when the hood is popped open (besides the exhaust). I let the threadlocker sit overnight and today I have to run some errands. Later, I will change the oil and whenever the snow melts (we just got 3-4") I'm going out hotrodding to see if it indeed makes a difference in power.
 
what did you decide to do??? fuel pressure regulator, wideband and rockers??? or did you just do the rockers for now???
 
Just the roller rockers. I removed the old parts and installed the studs Friday night. Waited 24 hours for the loc-tite to cure then installed the rocker arms. Buttoned it up Sunday morning and ran it at idle til warm up, constantly looking for signs of failure.

I installed new plugs while I was their saturday. Just a bit ago I removed them to see any signs of lean condition or otherwise, so far they look spot on (as did the plugs I pulled). At the end of the week I will pull and inspect the plugs again to see if they show signs of lean conditions.

If I can get ahold of a wideband kit for cheap, I'll pick one up. But the truck runs awesome as of right now. No pinging, no signs of rough or "spikey" acceleration. Not a single hiccup. (except for first start up, it fired first try but wheezed and stumbled for a bit)

All in all, the engine is much quieter. Climbing hills does not require downshifting and in the event I do downshift to take advantage of the rpms, the speedometer climbs up and around quickly.


Pssst:Headers, Intake, and Rockers make for a sweet exhaust note, too....
 
hey im not trying to steal this thread but how the the returnless fuel systems work on the newer rangers they still have what looks like a fuel pressure regulator with a vacuum line attached but how would you crank up the fuel pressure? sludge???

I logged in about 6 hours on Friday night. As soon as I pulled the intake and covers, along came a friend of mine. Since it was snowin crazy he decided he didn't wanna go out so we both hung out in the heated garage (from a wood boiler, not the nausiating kerosene) with some brewskies. All in all I only got about 3 hours worth of work to into it that night. Then, I would say another 30 minutes to adjust all the rocker arms to their recommended preload and another half hour for the intake and valve covers.

This really is an easy project if you know your way around an engine. I would think with some common sense, one could install them with little experience inside an engine. With a little patience and a free weekend (threadlocker has to cure) I think its one of the more notable mods I've done to the 3.0L.


To anyone looking at doing this mod, do not be afraid to ask questions. It is very much worth it.
 
thats good to hear its workin out good for ya!!!! when i do mine im porting the heads, manifolds, half shafting the TB, doing a 3 angle Valve job on the seats, 2 Angles on the valves, 1.7 rollers, and milling the heads down a little for a bit of a boost in commpression!!!

Im just waiting for the head gaskets to blow!!!!!!
