Ok now that lots of time has passed with some of you running 0w30 synthetic motor oil in your M5OD's, is there any comments? Any unusual wear or noises or anything? How long did the oil hold up before you changed it?

I used to run Amsoil 0w30 full synthetic in my transmission and it was great. I recently decided to try one of these products, and its even better, and should last longer.

Edit: removed one link, wrong fluid.

cool. How long have you been using it? Any comments? Compared to ATF at all?

Ive been running it in my Truggy for almost 18 months now (still on the initial change). It is far better than gear oil and ATF was. My buggy about halfway through a hard wheeling trip is pretty hot and the shifting became a bitch when I was using gear oil. The ATF made it a little bit better but then for shits and giggles I decided to try the above fluid and it is FAR superior. My shifting never becomes difficult anymore, and its very smooth/quiet. I even swapped it into my other B2 which is a DD, and although that truck doesnt get beat on, it also shifts much smoother now. That is the truck I used to run 0w30 in.

If you're interested in that product, let me know.

Definitely interested. Just got through a rebuild, so I'm doing my research. Not sure where I can get it in Canada though. Wanna keep those brand new bearings happy.

I am an Amsoil dealer. I can get it to you.

Shoot a PM to CopyKat, he has been running 0w30 in his m5od for a quite a while now, he should be able to give you some insight. He is also in Canada as well and uses it in cold temperatures (he's in Manitoba)

Definatly recomend it but liability is not on me as it's your discression if you use it or not.

Going on 3 years now and it's been great. Winter shifting is like it is in the summer.

Not too worried. The bearing kits are readily available and as I just found out, it's an incredibly easy transmission to rebuild. I think I'll give it a shot.

Do you run it in your transfercase too?

hate to thread jack, but whats the differnece between 0w#0 and say an ATF in the trans? Any good ideas as to why they would use an ATF in a manual trans? And one last one, tried using a 15/16 wrench on my filler plug and it wasn't quite right, what size metric wrench are you using to remove your fill & drain plugs? i think Arnold put in my filler plug the last time the oil got changed.
