08 5r55e swap with a 5r55e from an 05 sport trac?

Hello all, have been lurking for a while but this is my first post. I have an 08 4x4 xlt with the 5r55e. mileage is 244k but truck was serviced regularly including the trans and running gear. lost reverse and drive and intermittently OD. I can shift 1 and 2 and after 60mph can usually go to drive and it engages. I did do a filter and fluid change just in case it was an issue and did not notice any major chunks or pieces in the pan. I am sure it probably needs a rebuild. I do have a 05 sport trac with the same 4.0l sohc engine and a 5r55e that has an issue with with the timing cassettes and was curious if anyone knows if they should be compatible? the sport trac is hard to get under currently to see connection plugs. thanks..

As long as the sport trac is also 4x4 it should work.

oops.. didn't factor that in.. the sport trac is 2wd..

Then nope. You'd have to completely tear down both transmissions to change the output shafts.

thanks for the info... looks like I need to evaluate worth vs cost... timing chain is making noises from the front as well. maybe I should be looking for a eng/trans donor...
