Pulled motor putting back in I noticed front shaft of trans has about 3/8" play should I worry? How hard is it to change beating in guessing input shaft.

Just make sure pilot bushing in crank is in good shape and you will be good to go.

1/8" play isn't too bad, most I have messed with have that much or more and are in good shape. The input shaft is actually two pieces, the part you see ends shortly after it enters the transmission where it rides on another bearing. As Transman said, the pilot bearing keeps it centered so a little play there is normal and OK.
