'07-'11 Rangers due to be recalled

I was thinking, if you own a car like a focus or fusion and you have defective passengers side airbags, you can always have your passengers sit in the back until its fixed. If you own a pre 2004 ranger you have the ability to turn the passengers side airbag off, my truck has no back seat, and no way to turn the passengers side airbag off so you would think "logically" trucks like mine would have been high on the priority list to get the passengers side fixed since its literally the only place someone can sit.

Again I'm trying to figure out what insane method they are using for determining when/where/what gets recalled. There doesn't appear to actually be any rational to it whatsoever.

I don't know how early they started doing it, or which manufacturers did, but my 2010 Fit had a sensor in the front passenger seat. If there was nobody in the seat, the airbag would not deploy. If the person in the seat was under a certain weight, the air bag wouldn't deploy.

Ford already replaced the passenger side air bag in the 2011. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually recall the driver's side.

Yes this is how it works on my truck meaning there is no way to turn the airbag off when someone is in the seat like on earlier trucks that had a switch on the dash to turn it off. At least with the earlier trucks if you knew the airbag was a death trap you could just turn it off so your passenger didn't get a face full of metal.

I didn't tell you this but if you unplug the occupancy sensor under the seat or the seat belt pretensioner connector, the airbag light will stay on and the air bags won't work.

Dirtman, I am in the same boat as you. My passenger airbag was replaced in 2018/2019 for free by my dealer. I have just been waiting for the other shoe to drop on the driver side airbag. I already looked it up this morning, but according to NHTSA, my vin is not listed in the recall yet.

All things considered, I would rather just daily drive a 6x6. It may not have airbags, but whoever hits me has much more to worry about than me.

It has been confirmed that this round is for the driver side air bags in the Rangers.

When do they recall the side curtain air bags?

Interesting question. They would be the only thing left.

Is there a cupholder recall yet?

No recall for cup holders because NHTSA decided it is safer to spill your drink all over you than provide a safe place to keep it.

Hot crotch doesn't count as a danger to others when that steaming hot coffee cup gets crushed between your legs.

I'm not sure about that not being a danger to others deal !! :shout::shout:
