05 Ranger 3.0 V6 cranks but won’t start! Even after trying everything.
I’m having the same problem. Reading this thread, I tried some of the diagnostic procedures. I replaced the relay. I replaced the fuel pump because I was certain that’s what the problem was. I have electricity at the plug to the fuel pump. I can’t remember which forum, a guy said, hook up your multimeter to the pink and black wires, turn the key, it’ll go to 12 V for two seconds and then drop to 6 to 8 V. It did that. I took the fuel filter off and directed the hoses into a container and turned the key, no fuel spewed out. I opened up the air intake and sprayed starter fluid and it did turn over, obviously it didn’t run. So I know I have spark. I haven’t tried the Schrader valve at the fuel rail because it doesn’t seem like it’s sending any fuel at all. When I turn the key, I don’t hear the fuel pump.
it is not throwing any codes.
I think the next thing I’m gonna try is the sensor for the crankshaft.
(somebody said don’t throw parts at it and that’s what I’m doing!)

getting power to the pump is only half the equation. the power must go thru the pump and then on to ground.

the sensor at the crank is part of the ignition system, the one that worked when you sprayed fluid in it.

Why are you messing with the engine and it's sensors, when it's obvious you do not have any fuel. When you first turn the key to run(not start), you should hear the pump hum. If you don't, and you said you got no fuel in the bucket, you need to figure out why you do not have any fuel.

Thank you!

also be careful spraying ether/starting fluid - spray it AFTER the MAF so you don't get it on the MAF (do more harm)....

to complicate the issue, the PCM monitors the power wire going to the fuel pump.
if the PCM detects a problem the PCM shuts the power to the fuel relay/pump off.

I put voltmeter on the plug that goes to the fuel pump. Red probe on the pink with black stripe wire. Black probe on the black wire. It gets 12 V for two seconds and then drops down to. I can’t remember five or six.
I imagine that black wire is grounded.

Thank you!

correct, the MAF is a HOT WIRE sensor. guess what can happen when highly volatile ether hits a hot wire?????
plus the solvent action can ruin it.

I swear to God it seems like I got a bad fuel pump from Motorcraft, but I can’t believe that’s true.

ah, what plug? and where is it.

I’m sorry to keep posting questions. I have 12 V at the plug it drops down to six. I do not hear the fuel pump run. It’s something I’m very familiar with. I absolutely do not hear the fuel pump run for two seconds.

hook it all up out of the tank and have a partner flip the key to run (not start) for 1/2 - 1 sec... pump should whine away (don't do it long or repeatedly, the pump requires fluid to cool itself).

Thank you for your help.
I don’t know what the proper terminology is, but it’s the plug from the wire that comes out from under the cab and connects to the fuel pump, there are four wires in the plug, apparently two are 12 V and two send to the fuel guage in the cab.

that is what should happen.

Yes, thank you. That is SUCH a drag. I didn’t want to have to do that! It was incredibly difficult to turn that locking ring! After that experience, I was afraid to mess with it again!
Thanks!
