drive it like you stole it! if you can't break it on purpose it won't leave you stranded later

Hey all, i know i've seen a couple posts reguarding this problem but i can't seem to navigate the page well enough to find my own posts, let alone.... anyway, My 05 edge ex-cab, 4x4, auto. w/4.0Lsohc, wont let me take the shifter out of park when the truck is running. after starting it, I have to back the key off one click, and take it out of park, (obviously holding the brake) and put it in the neutral pos. then restart the engine...
this began when I went to pick it up at the RV Dealership where I bought my new travel trailer. I had them also install a new hitch, and a New Prodigy2 brake controller. It never did this before, and there is no damage, or slop, etc. in the ignition switch, or key...checked all fuses, all good...and of course, the dealer denies causing the problem. could this be an electrical problem related to the BC install, or its function? I am really stuck here, have nothing left to pay anyone at a shop. Please help?:icon_confused:,:icon_confused:

please forgive me if I am not using the blog properly...I am new....

was this not the correct place to list an urgent tech question?

Hang On There

Hang on and someone will get back to you!!!! Give them a chance.

I don't know what is actually causing your problem. Since it is an 05 auto, my guess is that the system that locks the shifter until the brake pedal is depressed was screwed up when they installed the trailer brake controller.

Take it back to the shop that screwed it up and make them fix it!!!

If you check you will find your brake lights are not longer working. The interlock solenoid that lets you take it out of park is activated by a signal from the brake switch.

Either they popped the fuse, left the switch for the brake lights unplugged, or damaged the wiring. I don't care what the guys at the RV shop say they did or didn't do, they did cause this problem, but it is probably something really stupid.

Yep yep yep. Either there is a bad ground, bad tap if they used a generic harness, something not plugged in correctly if they used a Ranger specific harness, or something else they did. Call/email the manufacturer and see what information they have. The alarm on my Mustang kept going off every 15 minutes. The installer cared but not that much. The manufacturer faxed me information for a fix. Remember it is the manufacturers reputation on the line even if it's not their fault.
