I've found an `03 Level II, auto with 95,000 miles on it. I've got the dealer to come down to $8,500 should I or shouldn't I?

I feel like such a wuss posting this question...:icon_confused:

That's not too bad of a deal. I’ve seen some dealerships asking waaaay too much for rangers. If you can get them to throw in an extended warranty, a carfax and maintenance records, and that's the type of rig you’re looking for, go for it. Just make sure you to take the time and do a very thorough inspection. Dealerships are great problem hiders. Good luck man.

Indeed they are, if you have a code reader bring it and plug it in. Some clear codes to sell the vehicle.

stick would be preferred but that auto is the most reliable of all the ranger tranny's. what are your plans for this truck?

i think he meant that that auto is the most reliable of the auto trannies in rangers. not the most reliable of all trannies.

id really hope so

those torsen 8.8" axles are known to be junk. of the 2 people that i know of with torsen axles in their trucks, one had to be rebuilt at 25k miles (under warranty) and needs it again already, and the other was rebuilt at 75k miles for the small price of $1800

if you do end up having trouble with it, you could swap in a standard ranger 8.8 or an explorer 8.8 for a lot cheaper than you can have one of those torsen units rebuilt.

i didnt know torsen made an axle!

however, i did have a torsen in my 8.8 but either gay ass ford or torsen(whoever put the carrier together) didnt properly torque the bolts that hold the carrier together. so the bolts sheered off after they started backing out and one bolt shot out the diff cover.
aside from that, it worked awesome when it was good.

You seem to have run into a weird group that has won the wrong lottery. The Torsens have a GREAT reputation overall. The same basic locker is used on many military vehicles.

Meh, I've seen a Torsen in action, I wasn't impressed.
