Forgive me if there is another thread about this but I searched and couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I have an '02 FX4 (torsion bars) that I need to replace the lower ball joints in. (looks like one is worn pretty bad). I have read that I can remove and replace them myself, I have also read that they have to be pressed out and then I read that I have to replace the entire lower control arm because you can't replace them. Which is true?

Has anyone done this on an FX4 that knows for sure? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Ron, I hear MOOG is the way to go. I'll start with the lowers and see if I need the uppers. The lowers are $41.33 on MOOG's website plus shipping, I just found the genuine MOOG (same part #) on ebay for $27 each with free shipping.

I only have 84k on the truck, so hopefully nothing else is needed.

Eh, Moog isn't all its cracked up to be anymore.

I'd go with raybestos.

And go with rockauto.com

I ordered some Moog's. But thanks 6.2, I'll keep that in mind for the uppers if I need them.

Here's a pic of the drivers side lower ball joint. I haven't lifted it to see if it wiggles/wobbles, but I at least know the rubber is gone. It's an '02 with 84k miles on it. I figured after 12 years of life I might as well replace them. Better safe than sorry.

The lowers can be pressed out, you can do it at home if you have the right stuff.

The uppers are the ones that require arm replacement.

Thanks ADSM. I did some more research via a few forums and learned a bit more. I'll rent the press and pickle fork when change them out.
