so i got some 2002 explorer seats for cheap (20$) cloth, which is what i want...they are electric though, and my 98 isn't.
question 1.
how hard is it to swap the tracks from my ranger seat to the new ones?
question 2.
is it possible to use the electric seat without hooking up the electrical?
and just use it as a manual seat? i never need to re adjust my seats as i have a heavy stereo system in the back i dont need access to the back.
i really dont want to put more money into wiring harnesses and crap to hook them up, and if it wont work i might just re-sell the seats

i should also mention, only the drivers seat has power, and power only goes forward/back..no tilt or lumbar

If you want one time moving of the seat. Just hook power wire to pos bat terminal, and ground to negative. Adjust seat, disconnect wires, and never touch again.

I went from a ranger with power mountaineer seats to my explorer now with manual cloth, and I don't mind my cloth sets in my explorer one bit.

your saying you liked the cloth? or..
and ive heard getting the seat tracks off a 98 ranger is hard. could someone please tell me how hard this project is on a scale of 1-10??
and also the center consol from a explorer, difficulty 1-10? as i will be doing this too when i find one

See... Usually people just swap seats from 01 and older explorers to rangers. This way you keep everything, except the seat belt buckle...

02 and up I mean... I haven't look at differences, but I'd asse it would require more work then it's worth. Up to you.

All you need is one hot wire to make them work. Not sure what a couple feet of wire costs but it is pretty cheap.

Very cheap. It's either the red wire, or red/black wire. Mine from a mountaineer 99, was red/black. Solid black was ground.

Connect a wire to battery, splice it to each wire one by one, boom you will find it.
As in like testing each wire 1 by 1.

okay, i understand that part, but how do i go about changing the tracks of my 98 to the 02 seats??
if i use the tracks from my 98, will the power adjustments still work if i needed them to work 1 time?

alright so i gutted the tracks off the new seats, the tracks look to be the same as the old ones, but im not 100% sure, so im just gonna switch the tracks to be safe, and also take out the power option and leave it as manual sliding. i havent been home much to work on it, but it will be finished on wed. i will post pics

yeah i could do that, but im not sure if the seats will be a direct bolt in. some people have said the 2002 explorer seats changed from 01.

so im just gonna switch it all around and this way if i do need to get to the back, i dont need to find a power source to move the seat forward
