02 4x4 torsion bar “insulator” pads

I recently went to put lifted Torsion keys on my 02 4x4, but due to a few issues I couldn’t get the keys in so I decided to wait. When I took the old keys out, the rubber pads under the stock keys fell apart, is it going to hurt anything riding without them? I cranked the keys back tk where they where and it did have to go a little further then before but I would figure it was because of the pad missing. So once again; do I really need the rubber pads? And if it’s really needed does anyone have part numbers? Because I can’t find them anywhere

I would think that IF the rubber pads crumbled when you touched them, they were not doing much to begin with. You're probably OK to run without them.

I thought those pads were indestructible, so not surprised there aren't part numbers for them (not a wear item, so shouldn't ever need replacing.

If you weren't on opposite side of country, I'd send you one of spare sets I have.​

They are to provide cushion, so you don't have direct metal to metal contact. It will be noisier, and you may notice slightly poorer ride. But it isn't dangerous to drive without them.

You might have to go to a junk yard to get replacements. I don't remember there being a part number listed for them. You could try looking on the Tasca site and see if they have anything. They seem to be the best to navigate but they are still limited by the OEM illustrated parts break down drawings that Ford gives them.

This is one of the things on my list of stuff I need to find for my 09. Mine have not fallen apart yet but the metal backing has separated. I am going to do some research as well.

Ford listings don't go back to 2002

considering the pressure that the keys put against them, they are not "just rubber" but rather some very tough polymer stuff.

I've been digging, but couldn't find this until I found this thread. Lakeland says it doesn't fit my '03, but Tasca says it does, and shows a photo that includes the cast-Iron plate that the key pushes against.
