Headers are going to be the biggest problem I see, custom all the way. Even with the 5.0L, only three "standard" options for the later Rangers. The stock Explorer ones, the discontinued FRPP ones or the Torque Monsters I also realize not so much support for the "C" but the stuff is out there and you only have to do it once.

Ok, so just because there isn't a readily made swap kit, I shouldn't do it? The cleveland got scrapped because of emissions and the fuel crisis, not because of performance. I have already spoken with CHI about achievable hp with a stock stroke N/A C and 550 hp is readily achievable, 600 + with more displacement. Headers, I have found header plates where you weld your own pipes onto it, no problem there. I am waiting on the title for the ranger before I start disassembling, and selling the parts, then I will put a couple bolts in each head and start to fit it in there.

how does the "c" and "w" have the same bell housing? :icon_confused: c= big block w= small block

No wrong, all clevelands (except i think there is one very rare cleveland with big bell housing, or its an m with a small) share the small block bolt pattern on the bell housing, and the motor mounts, while the M is a big block pattern, The only thing a cleveland shares with a big block in the distributor.

the "c" is still a big block and is gonna be hard as hell to fit. ur gonna be doing alot of :icon_welder::icon_thumby:

:D All these dimensions are the same between the windsor and cleveland family: bore spacing, head bolt pattern, bellhousing bolt pattern, motor mount bolt pattern, bore diameter, length of stroke. . So just how do you figure the Cleveland is a big block ? The deck height of the cleveland is 9.2" vs 9.5" for the windsor, so again, how you figure it's a big block when the windsor's deck is taller ? :icon_rofl: The windsor even has longer rods.

Not becuse there is not a swap kit made but becuse of all the negitive things about them that will cost you alot of time, money and big headaches. :icon_confused:
Run the free Clevelands that you have and have some fun but dont cry when someone woops you with a little 302 in there Ranger :icon_rofl:. The aftermarket has made this a big reality with all the support that they have for them.

Windsors > Clevelands

What negative things ?

Size making fitment harder, Weight making the truck front heavy and more unstable, lack of available parts for custom swaps, cost of parts for the Cleveland to name a few things.
Hell even Ford racing performance parts doesnt give but a little support to the Clevelands and that is only becuse the heads can be used on both Windsors and Clevelands. Leave the old Cleveland and FE's stuff to the guys with old Fords and Mustangs. If Mentalbreakdown was building an old Ford I would have given him alot more support. I do like the fact the he is wanting to use a Ford power plant in a Ford but would be way more supportive if he was using a Shitrolet LS engine.

None of those things you listed are enough to justify one over the other. Heavier ? Not by much, maybe 20-50 pounds. Not enough there to affect handling. Cost of Cleveland parts ? Nope. Aside from the cost of aftermarket heads (you don't need aftermarket heads with a Cleveland)and head machining costs due to the compound angles, the rest of the parts are no more expensive than any other engine. Header fitment is about the only major sticking point in a Ranger swap. This is also true for anyone using a 302 with GT40P heads as well, and is also true in going with a 351W.

The Cleveland will be quite a bit heavier then a Windsor by the time its completely dressed and readyto run. Its all steel brackets which if you dont have will cost you good money as they are scarce and the guys that have them think that they are worth their weight in gold. A fox style oil pan is not cheap for a Cleveland, Headers unless you can fabercate your own bring the vasoline with you. 50 to 100 pounds dont sound like much but when its up front and over the front axle centerline its alot. By the time you save money redoing and running them stock anchor weight heavy Cleveland iron heads you could have spent a few hundred dollars more on some way better aftermarket aluminum Windsor heads and saving alot of weight up front. Unless you have a back up Cleveland block you better hope that you dont hurt the one that you have where a Windsor block you can find at any wrecking yard if need be. Lets face it the aftermarket has way more out there for the Windsor then the cleveland ever had in its life. There is a reason that nascar used the Windsor block as it was a better platform to build from then the Cleveland ever was or had been. These are some of the NEGITIVE things that I was talking about.

Be that as it may, none of it is any harder to deal with in a Ranger swap than a 351W is. And the weight thing ? I used to have a big block 67 Stang. And it handled just as well as a small block car. It's all in how you drive it. And Cleveland blocks aren't hard to find.
