i have a 00 Ranger with the permanently locked front end , i hate the permantly locked front end , would it be possible to put shafts and bearings out of a 98-99 Ranger with the PVH hubs in place of my stock one and then do the AVM manual hub conversion ?

I don't know but holy shit you have a long siggy.

Pretty sure it's been done before (it's the reverse of what's done here), then put your AVMs on.

i figured someone somewhere had to have done it , cause i like having lockouts on my truck

I had actually have been thinking about this for the past few weeks !! LOL !! The biggest concerns I had were weather or not the 98-00 axle shafts would fit the 01-up housing and would the 98-00 wheel bearing would fit the 01-up knuckle.

It would be a worthwhile mod IMHO especially if you plan on installing a suspension lift. Would take a lot of wear and tear off the CV joints, front driveshaft joints and most importantly , the transfer case chain.

well i wouldnt have a problem with my bearings or shafts , since mine is a 00 and it should be easy , but this truck is getting drop shackles and a t-bar crank to lift it about 2 inches

CV axles and hubs fit. I changed my 99 to the what you have. But there are controls that go with the PVM hubs. Unless you make a electric over vacuum solinoid put the control switch in the dash.

well i am going to install the AVM manual locking hubs when i do this conversion

I HATE :
Automatic Hubs
Pulse Vacuum Hubs
Permanent Locked Front

LOVE:
Manual Locking Hubs all the way

The AVM locking hubs look pretty sweet. I have an '00 Ranger and it looks like the hubs are the vacuum actuated ones. How can I tell for sure, other than the vacuum line running to the hub?

Thanks.

Bob K. new guy.

Large nut in the center of the wheel hub = no locking hubs.
Black plastic cap with small metal screen in the center = PVH locking hubs.

If I remember 2000 isn't PVM hubs 98-99 are.

What is wrong with having everything turning? To me 1 less thing to have to get out and lock in and have something to go wrong with. I didn't see any less fuel mileage after changing to Exp hubs. Plus the Exp hubs are cheaper I damn near crapped after buying PVM front hub.

some early 2000 models did have a PVH setup , and i think , seince i am putting the lockouts on , i will get better mileage , that is the way it was with my 96 , and i see no need to have everything turning in the middle of the summer when i never use the 4wd , it is pointless , if i want the front end to turn , i want it only when i need it , which is not all the time , and i never had any problem after i switched my 96 to the warn lockouts , since the auto hubs disintegrated

If fuel mileage was really hurt why Ford keep using it instead of dropped it after 2 years. Besides I changed mine I didn't see fuel mileage drop.

fuel mileage is maybe 1 mpg better , but to me , every little bit helps , since i do alot of driving and i run oversize tires , and i prefer to not have everything turning all the time because then it save wear and tear on the components
