i replaced my tranny about five thousand miles ago. the engine has less than 25,000 miles on it. all was running well and smooth until i towed our bayliner boat a few weeks back.
its a 4.0 automatic.
shifts smooth until i hit about 40-50mph, then it shifts abrubtly, and the rpms sky up a little bit, then back down after an instant.

any feedback would be great. just wondering if theres anything i can look into myself or if i should just take it in?

Check fluid level. Towing heats up the tranny and the fluid can boil out the overflow.. If that don't do it then swap in a new filter.. Towing might have partially stopped it up, or it just might be time anyway.

did you rebuild it or just swap for another trans and why with only 25000 on the truck? if there is only 5000 on a rebuild i would go collect on the warranty! the computer is trying to compensate for an abnormality in the trans. has it continued after normal driving?

...

hi thanks for the replies. sorry it took so long to get back.

the fluids looked good. the filter was replaced when the tranny was.

and yes i did have it in OD for some time while i was towing the boat..

ill have to check into the warranty..but it was a rebuilt tranny i had put in so i doubt they will do anything for me without it costing me.

and yes it has still been doing it, ive noticed that it occurs once the engine/tranny warms up. when i first start it up i have no problems. but after running it for 15 plus minutes or so. it will shift abruptly just going into fourth gear..? trying not to drive it if i dont need to at this time.

Yeah..I suppose not. I only did so for a few miles, i figured it was okay since it was a light boat..however maybe I was wrong.
Think this is what caused it?

Do your reverse lights work?

when ever I hook up a trailer it pops my fuse, and this fuse also controls the OD solenoid.

I dont rember the location but its a 10 amp fuse.
