If you are running 32-bit version of Windows XP and you have installed 4GB of RAM, the 32-bit version of Windows XP will only recognize 3.2GB of that RAM. The BIOS will show all 4GB.
Please do not be alarmed as this is normal for the 32-bit version of Windows XP.
The 64-bit version of Windows XP will support up to 16GB of RAM. The only limitation here is that most motherboards that you will buy for a build will only support up to 8GB of RAM.
