Most hobbies are money pits and can take any amount of money you throw at them. If I wanted to get extremely serious about photography, I could easily surpass the value of my Ranger in camera equipment. When I was into model rockets, I was getting to the point where 1 flight could cost $300 or more, without destroying the rocket. $250 in propellant was easy. And I would spend a weekend in a hotel near the launch field, gas money for round trip, meals, sometimes flying 30 rockets of various sizes throughout the weekend, buy more kits and building supplies, tools, enclosed utility trailer to haul everything, 10ft x 20ft awning for shade….But not quite the depth of what a boat is.
