Well after putting 30k kms on my B4000 (4.0 SOHC) it has started to tick. The engine has about 230,000kms. The previous owner did religious oil changes and I have done my own (usually every 5-7k kms, full synthetic 5w30 with MasterCraft filter).

The tick happens only when hot and is especially bad after long highway drives. I found a YT video that is similar to my noise. From reading it seems this is from lack of lubricant and I read of many ways to "try" and solve the issue without ripping everything apart (seafoam or running oil additives).

Is there a common issue with the 4.0s being noisy or am I a special guy?

dashhho,

Since you have a B4000, I have to presume that you have a OHV 4.0L. If so, unfortunately, the stock valve train is non adjustable.

•A set of hardened rockers from Delta Camshaft of Tacoma Washington (the only place left on the planet that has these parts) will set you back $150 including shipping.
•a set of stock push rods are only $2.50 each from memory. You do have the option to incorporate adjustable push rods from Smith Brother's; the set if custom push rods will cost about $150 including shipping. This move will save you money since the valve train will need adjusting at approximately each 30k miles, without the adjustable push rods your looking at new rockers and possibly push rods every 30k.

Thanks Gaz. I have the SOHC and not the OHV. Is it still looking like the same scenario?

Second question. How easy is it to do top end work on these sohc engines. I have only been down to the lower intake when I changed the thermo housing..

I do not have much space and time right now..and it is -20 burrr.

Something is wrong here. The conversion is telling me -4 F...how can you have negative freedom units?

I got mr.heater ready as we came back from ice fishing earlier. Getting him going in the igloo will take the chill off! 🙂
