Heater control valve and vacuum on 99 3.0L XLT

1999 Ranger Supercab XLT with the 3.0L 2wd.

I am curious as to why the parts stores and the Ford dealer have two different heater control valves listed for my truck? Prior to me owning, someone had deleted the manifold ports and replace the factory molded "T" hoses with straight sections also removing the heater control valve. I want to reinstall it simply to keep all the hot coolant from flowing constantly through the core. I live in Mesa, AZ so every degree counts around here. Also, I have the one grey vacuum hose that connects to the HCV just laying there open.

I spent some time at the local junkyard to get a few odds and ends parts and noticed that some had a two port HCV and some have the four port. I also noticed that some heater hoses ran from the firewall to the thermostat housing and some ran to the underside of the motor. I am sure this has to do with year. I have a brand new two port HCV, but I am unsure on exactly where to install it and what direction. I need some input and would be great to have a few pictures of specifically the 3.0L with the two extra cooling lines that run over to the manifold.

Am I better off just grabbing the 4 port HCV? I can probably return the other one, but I have had it a while. I would also like to know the flow direction of coolant. Does the hose coming from the water pump housing push to the heater core or is it pulling it in?

That is the confusing part. I looked at two 98+ model year Rangers with the 3.0L. One had a 4 port and the other had only a 2 port, plumbed into on heater hose. Both trucks had the factory TB or manifold heating hoses still connected.
