Hey guys, I'm sandblasting the steering knuckle on my 2001 Ranger 4x4. There is a metal flange or race inside the Knuckle opening where the cv joint halfshaft goes through. It got pitted up from sandblasting. It looks like the rubber boot on the end of the cv joint is supposed to rest against and turn against this flange or race. I noticed it had grease inside I guess, to keep the rubber lubricated. Can anyone tell me what goes on here with the rubber and the flange? Is it meant to keep water out of the backside of the wheel hub? Now that I pitted the metal, is it going to wear down the rubber? Is it supposed to be packed inside with grease? If so, what type of grease? Thanks
