1999 toyota corolla engine noise need help

Could be m any things. Best thing would be to go around it with a stethoscope to see if you can narrow it down to one area. It's really just a guessing game at this point so I'll guess a loose cam pulley or a water pump bearing.

it is hard to tell........I think that is the 1zz-fe engine......it has a timing chain. they are a little noisy but not that noisy.........the serp belt tensioner pulley goes bad often and sounds like a can of marbles when it does...........I would get the stethoscope out as mentioned and try and locate the sound.......you also could pull the serp belt off and see if it goes away...................I would join toyotanation.com and post in the 8th gen rola forum.......
