Koda's Zx2.

Almost to that big number!

Hopefully I catch it right before, and when it turns over. I'd love to have a picture of 99,999.9 and 100,000.0 :D

Rear passengers wheel bearing is going out, finally got loud enough that I could figure out which one it was.

If you ever buy any version of the Ford Escort be prepared to replace the wheel bearings.

Same bearing went out on mine, although I had about 40K on it, IIRC. I'm sure my wheels played a part.

I got a few thousand more miles on it after it started to become audible. Finally changed it after I could hardly hear the exhaust over the roar of the bearing. :dunno:

You should have heard how loud my front one was before I had it replaced. First time my girlfriend rode in my car after that she kept asking why it was so quiet. Used to have to yell to have a conversation in there.

i bought my GT with 125k miles and its got almost 170k now, never had any trouble with wheel bearings. my g/f has an '03 zx2 with 100k miles and never had any problems with it either...

knock on wood....

The GT is an older escort, probably has better parts. I think in '93 they went to the newer body style and the bearing eating suspension. My brother had a GT right before (or maybe after? I don't remember..) he had his Foxbody Mustang. He always called his escort his mini mustang. Might even have been years before.. I was little back then. Didn't see him around much.

The front drivers was changed at 70k, front passengers at 85ish, and the rear is going to be changed around 101. If your girlfriends Zx2 has the stock timing belt I'd have it looked at, mine failed at 90K and I've heard they fail sooner than that typically. Most zx2 forums recommend a 60k cycle on replacing them.

Her 03 would have the better timing componets though, older Zx2's had a two piece pully that shredded belts. Another thing the 03 probably has is the stock single din stereo plate.

nope.... 91-03 used all the same suspension. 1990 and earlier was all based on ford's designs. starting in 91 and all the way through the final year (02 for the escort and 03 for the zx2) they were based entirely on a mazda protege. the body style changed from 96 to 97, but the suspension stayed the same save for a few minor things.

yes, yes it does. they changed the timing belt setup midway through 99 iirc, and 03 was the only year with the single din radio and separate hvac controls. not to mention the (beautiful) front bumper and 5 spoke wheels.

Ah, I was a couple years off.
