Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

so what happens if they warenty them? if you cant use them in the hp you just going to sell them or do you think they'll just give you the $ back

Well it would be nice to get the cash, but if they do warranty them, IDK yet, might just keep em, who knows, but I bet they will just give me another set of gears.

I know we talked about the doubler shaft awhile ago and I remember describing how mine was built. But don't recall if I showed you a pic of it or not? anywho, found a pic.

Who did yours and how much did it run??

A buddy did it as a one time only thing, he no longer works where he made it for me. I supplied all the components.

The user on here "burnside" was the last owner of my doubler I am aware of. I sold it to a buddy who then traded it to him.

Do you know what process he used to make them?? How did he make/form the splines??
SVT

The splined portion is the output from a rbv trans. Simply cut it off with a 4.5" grinder and smoothed the cut.

The outer gear is the same piece as the other doubler shafts, its the inner shaft from the tcase cut down. Then bored out larger.

Then the inner gear is the front input from the tcase cut and pressed into the other piece then was drilled along the "seam" of the two and chromo pins were pressed in.

If any of that makes any sense. SO other then the pins, all the parts were from 1 tcase and one trans.

I know exactly what your talking about....Never thought about doing it that way, you just gave me an idea :icon_thumby:

Well, I had a couple of boxes show up at my house, new gears, carrier and parts to install. I will get started on it soon! Still waiting on my ruffstuff order for my explorer axle swap parts.

Put the truck in the garage tonight, so stay tuned, axle swap this weekend.

they took forever on my shipment, and i am just a few hours away. Good quality stuff though. Reminds me a lot of Ballistic's stuff

Alright, I think it has been long enough, time for an update!

Well after waiting 4 or so weeks to hear back about my warranty on my gears, unable to get ahold of anyone to find out what the fawk was going on I decided to just go ahead and buy the stuff to build the HP 44. So I ordered up new gears and carrier, then picked up some 1.5" dia DOM for a new tie rod, some weld in bungs and a few other odds and ends an got started last weekend. Still don't know about the LP gears, but o-well, maybe I can sell them if I ever see them again.

Anyway, finished it all up today, looks good and drives good too.

here are the pictures!

full width...little off center, bout 3/4", shoulda spend more time centering it. I might have the adjustment in my heims, other wise I can shorten my track bar to fix it, O-well, it'll still wheel the same. The front is about 2" wider overall than the rear, I will run it this way for a while.

My fix for my brake line guard, 1" angle. Looks good IMO and should work great.

Next on the todo list is put the explorer axle under it, inboard the springs, lose the blocks. I ordered a 8.8 ruffstuff diff cover and axle swap kit. I am also in process of making some new spring hangers. Gonna start this in a few weeks.

Thanks for looking!

Looks awesome! :icon_thumby: Keep up the great fabbin'.

What kind of pitman arm is that and who makes it? Looks like a heim specific, double shear pitman arm.

I like the angle iron over the brake line idea.

Holy crap, what diameter DOM is that? 1.5"?

Thanks!

I made it out of a stock 4WD arm so I could use the heim and not worry.

The DOM where? The arms are 2" dia, 1/4" wall and the steering and track bar are all 1.5" dia, 1/4" wall:icon_thumby:

looks good man, are you planning on going FW out back?
