That plate would've been the perfect thing for my custom circle burning tool I made for the plasma cutter!!

I made one to cut perfect circles in whatever diameter above 2 1/2". Otherwise, they're well over $100 for the stupid thing. Mine costed $4.99 for the roller bearing......

Don't go there, Paul Lol I'm going to make another one, and have figured out I need a circle cut at 4" diameter, a scribe at 6" diameter (for the actual mounting bolt holes), and another circle cut at 7" diameter. But since the channel I used is not long enough for a second, it's the only 1/4 inch material I have. I have 5/16 X 8" flat plate that I plan to use since I'm out of 1/4 inch, and while it's a little heavier, it will be stronger...
I migh work on that either today or tomorrow, though it will take me a while to cut it out as the only resources I have is a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade ( I have torches but no gas, and a sawzall won't cut an accurate tight turn). I need to get me some better fab tools for what I want/like to do. One day.......

12 strobe lightbar with alleys, takedowns and flashers, 6 section LED unit on the visor, 4 section LED back window, 2 strobes in grille, LED flashers in front turn signals and LED flashers in the tail lights, tail turn lights, and LED white reverse lights in the tail light housing...I have added 2 more strobes on the dash that I had laying around, I did that this weekend...

Well I got started on the new plate today, and as you can see I got it a lot better this time. 2 sets of holes (1 set=6 mounting holes) are within 1/64 of the 3/8 mounting bolt diameter, 2 sets are within 1/32 of the bolt diameter, and 1 set is 1/16 off. It is a lot better than it was before, and while I'd like it to be a little better (within 1/64), I can deal with where it sits at. I measured and marked with an awl and compass scribe. When I was step-drilling (and clamping my material this time ) the material must not have self centered the bit causing it not drill the hole where it was center-punched, which all but about 2 holes were a near perfect punch...Oh well, I can deal with it and it lines up with the case, just need to get the center and outside edge cut. Going to my G/F's this weekend, and her dad works at a machining place that has a bridgeport that I will see if I can use to cut the two circles I need. If you look closely you can see the inner and outer circles scribed on the plate. The plate is also thicker(5/16 vs 1/4) than the C-channel I first tried, giving me a little more strength...

I will also be stopping on the way and picking up the material for the other side of the adapter when I head to the G/F's this weekend, and hopefully the pipe as well

Yeah, I can't tell you the number of flashbacks I had while drilling this plate. My injured hand pretty much stayed on the on-off switch the entire drilling time

Looking good. I'd suggest a smaller first drill bit ~ 1/8". It'll catch the punch mark better and it's easier on your big drill bit.

I did start with a small bit (as seen in the pic), 3/16 I believe, but when I positioned the plate for step drilling I think it shifted when I clamped it down to the drill press, and with the plate not being able move and self center, it drilled it off to one side of the hole...
