Thanks bud! the trip was kind of special. This is the first time my girlfriend and I have really done anything big. She has been there with me every weekend since around March working on the truck. So to share the first time out meant a lot to me seeing as how she was right there all this time...

Thank you Sir!

No... seriously take them away:thefinger:

It's funny hearing you guys talk about going lower and lower in gears when I really want to gain almost a full revolution point and step up to 4.10's:icon_rofl:

I can see 4.10s or lower on a 4X but for street with the 4.0 I think it would be a waste. Mine has a lot of power. Maybe it isn't stock I dunno I would think all the 4.0s are like mine. I have a 4.10 I'd give you if I could get it to you!

Ok, crawled through all your posts to find your rear tire size. The m50d has a final drive of 0.80:1 and with 275/40r17's, 3.45 rear, it gives me 2000rpms for 55, and ~2300 rpm for 65mph, which is just what you said.

Punching in a 3.08 rear, it gives you 62mph at 2k rpms, and 46mph at 1500. Giving you about 1800 for 55, and 2100 for 65rpm, which is about where I would be happy with.

It's kinda cool I talked to my dad who is also a mechanic. He said 1800 rpm at 55 would be perfect without me saying anything on the specs you said... I think this would be perfect..

If I could be without my truck while I waited for gears I'd be game. I really need to regear this thing it just seems sooooooooooo slooooooooooooow.

Sorry 'bout the thread jack multi... but Mike, might be the A4LD you've got. Had the same problem with Red Sled, then blew up the auto and went to an M5 and oh boy, what a difference. This was all with 4.56's and 33's, and it still felt sloooooooooooooow.

I agree with Andres. One of my buddies had an 87 STX 2.9 with a manual and my mom had an 88 STX auto with od.. At the same time I had a 2.3 in my 89 with a manual.. Moms truck seemed to have less power or seemed slower than my 2.3. Buddy with the 2.9 manual was bad ass! It is worth considering an M5 IMO

Multi, I'm glad you got most of the bugs worked out on your engine, remember a few post back when I said mine was missing like crazy, and I had change out all of the stuff, well after making a cat delet pipe, and it still missing, I took out one of the plugs and it was a reddish brown color, so I went to the parts store to get me another set (the set in it has only been it for 4 months *more about this in a moment*) I told the lady at the parts store that I wanted a set of Motorcraft copper plugs for my BroncoII, she looked them up and said it would be 2 weeks to order them, I asked if she has Autolite coppers, nope didnt have them, she said all the copper she has is Bosch copper, and they where on sale for .97 cents each, so I got 6 of them.

When I got home and the engine cooled down, I took one out and held it up to the new plug, the new plug had a longer thread shaft, I figured "well crap, she gave me the wrong plugs", I went on line and checked with the three other autopart store, and they all called for the same plug as the new one, SO, I intalled them and the little BroncoII is running better then it has since I got it.

NOW about the other plugs, I had took out one of the plugs and took with me to the parts store, and someone in the past had installed a too short of a plug, and all I did was buy another sett of too short plug and put it in.

Dang.

oh,, I took the too short plugs to a autoshop and showed them to the person there, He said they looked fine if I was running a fuel injected engine.

Its not nessasairly the tranny going bad, but the gearing between the trans and rear, on top of bigger tires. A m5od has something like a 4.88 overall gear spread, and the a4ld is like a 3.98 spread overall. That makes a HUGE difference on how the truck will handle power. Take the same truck and swap the two trannies back and forth, and you will get the same peformance between the two. The other thing is tha a4ld is not a very efficient tranny.

Seen that quite a few times man. Thats from someone buying plugs for a 3.0l v6 ranger, not the 2.9.

thread jacking doesn't exist here bud.. It's all about the Rangers! I have to be careful on some of my parts that I get since my truck is built from muti rangers.. I learned real quick some parts are year specific... example a 92 master cyl won't work with 90 brake lines... I know what you mean by taking old parts to swap...

Unless it is a dodge tranny I don't know a thing about transmissions.. I have forgot most all I knew about them after 12 years..
