My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

hope you made it home safe an sound buddy cant wait to see pics an the vid

Thanks Bud!! We made it back! I checked the codes with the SnapOn scanner and pulled code 452 Something about the VSS being in open circuit... I have another one I'll try changing it out. The video is taking forever so it may be tomorrow on it and any pics.. I have to say this weekend made working on the truck every weekend (almost) for the last year and 5 months worth it. We had a trucker wanting to buy the truck, people all over giving the thumbs up going down the road, An old lady I'd say in her 90s smiling and looking at it in a parking lot and the list goes on.. I never dreamed it would get that kind of attention. I really believe after this weekend I pulled off my idea of building a "Shelby" Ranger... I do have a few things I am going to have to fix. 1. the speed sensor 2. The left header has a leaking gasket. I really need to get the tire carrier built it is annoying listening to the rattles..
Over all she did really good and I was like a proud father or something. Looks like one of the videos are done!!

Those Hedman headers are they the flat flange style at the collector or do they have the ball socket? I've got the older flat flange ones and I had to modify them to get them to seal properly. If using the compressed paper gasket on the head, then plan to pull the headers off and replace the gaskets. The paper ones will blow out on you and leak within no time. I've had better luck with the stock wafer steel manifold ones, I currently run.:icon_thumby:

CopyKat knows his stuff!!!

I uploaded a few pics
First I'd like to give a small shout out to Denton Wrecker Service MontEagle Firestone. The guy there helped with getting the nut off the Alt! If anyone is ever in MontEagle TN and need service go check them out. They have a parts store there too!! The Tech and the lady I had the pleasure to talk to were really nice folks!

The engine Ford should have used in the Ranger!

I haven't been keeping up with this build like i should've:icon_twisted:, but this is mint-iness to the 10th mint!! That body kit/satin rims/gloss black/ SHELBY lettering works perfectly!

We have got to get you on Powerblock with Courtney!! :yahoo:

Thanks Iron Ranger!! that was the exact response I am looking for! I'd love for it to be on Powerblock!!!

More Pics.. I'll post some more tomorrow..

This didn't come out so well cause of the sun but it is an actual Gen 1 Ranger well a piece of one...

Sweet trip man! Glad it went well for you both, and I'm very glad you saved the chipmonk! LOL!

Fix that spare tire hanger, and quiet those brakes up and you will have one smooth ride!!

So whats next on the ranger agenda, besides a burnout and all... :-p

Thanks Bud! Yeah the chipmunk was lucky I needed to make sure my directions lol.. We really had a great time with the truck! Next up is building the tire carrier.. I have a winch from a S10 to use. I need to grab some angle iron to make the brace to attach the winch to. Also gotta change out the header gasket. It is blowing exhaust directly on the front plug and wire... The brakes are way down on the bottom of the list.. If I can find a 3:45 or higher 8.8 rear I am going to swap it out.. The brakes are bigger so I didn't want to throw away money on brakes I couldn't continue to use... Somewhere in there I need to get the interior done... I got nervous when the CEL came on and the smell of gas was very strong... I guess it isn't a good idea to climb a mountain in over drive at 25 MPH lol.(but it was pulling not bogging down).. I can't believe the truck my 4.0 came out of has a 4:10 rear end.. That motor has so much power I have to ask why would anyone want it in a 2wd... I like the fuel milage with the 3:45 but could still go higher gearing and have power in reserve.. I'd like to see 1500 RPM at 55MPH.

The exhaust leak is causing it to run rich also man. Its sucking in air into the exhaust stream, and showing the o2 that its running lean, and causing it to add in extra fuel, hense the strong fuel smell. It should lean back out once that is fixed. Driving around in OD is the only way you should be driving it around. You wont hurt that on the street keeping it in OD. Id mabye go to a 3.73 in that, but with the tq of the 4.0, its going to have great legs with the 3.45's. I liked driving the ranger with the 3.73's in mine, even tho the 2.3L is very anemic. I'm tempted to go to a lower gear with the turbo tho, to help keep boost through the lower gears. That and my top speed right now is like 105mph! lol. You could kinda simulate the 3.73's on the main roads if you snap overdrive out, it should bump up ur rpms close to what the new gears would be.

Oh, and here is a nice 3.73 LS rear end for sale not tooooo far from you, make another good weekend trip too!

Those look like they are from a newer Ranger or Explorer.. Those would be wider. I have to keet the tires where they are or they will rub pulling the boat or from body roll in a sharp curve.. Wouldn't a 3:73 be a lower gear? I am looking for less RPMs in OD.. the way it is now with the 3:45 I can tap the gas peddal at 55 and above and the torque will push you back if you are leaning forward... My girlfriend says it's a lot like her Trans Am with the BB 400... I just feel like I can get away with a higher gear... Again I'll take all the advise I can get... Not sure if I ever said but the tranny is a M50D if it matters to what we are talking about....

Ok, thought you meant higher gear number, giving you a lower overall gearing. Whats it turning at like 55 and 65 now?
