ranger refit/build thread

i was off a bit on my math with that-closer to 500.

three transmissions.

Strangely enough, that makes sense.Good lord man, you are a genius.

just comes down to using easilly available parts to make the thing do what i wanted.so maybe not so much genious as cheap.

I'd take a 'cheap rig' like that. Great use of available parts then. Time for a mid engine B2.

The 435's would have to be facing the rear, I'm starting to think in that 5th dimension.

Actually, the input of the 435's are facing the rear. Look at the 205 connected to the 60, it's mounted backwards and the 435 is mated to it, so they need to be mounted in that configuration. To me you would have to put at least one of the 435's in reverse to drive forward, I think...:icon_confused: :dunno:

got one...that's a 460 too.

the 435s and 205 are facing the opposite direction, but what's important is the direction of rotation of the input.consider that when they are all in high gear they are just a straight through shaft(1:1) so for a minute you can ignore that they are there at all.now you see the front output of the first 205 is going right into the front diff, just using the other gear boxes as a shaft extension.the second t-case just allows the rear d/s to be driven off the front-imagine that it had a sprocket driving a chain to connect them.
now,the only other thing going on is that the 'shaft extension' happens to have the ability for gear reduction.
the onlt issue i had to consider was that the direction of rotation was opposite what the transmissions were designed for,so thrust loads are in the opposite direction.for this i simply rearanged the thust bearings in the 435s,the 205 seems to be fine with it.

so in order to go forward, you gotta have the 435s in reverse since theyre facing the opposite direction correct?

No, I understand what he is saying now...all the trannies will be in forward gears, even the 435's, its just that the 435 will be turning the opposite direction, kind of like an engine turning backwards....By putting the trans (any trans) in reverse you are changing the output direction from the input direction. He is already turning the output shafts going to the axle in the direction he needs to, so the 435's are just be "driven through"...

so what gear are the 435s in when your going forward

as a bonus, the gears are working on the opposite side of the tooth than they had for their working life,so theres no wear on them....like having new gears(not that these monsters really wear, anyway).

so what gear are the 435s in when your going forward

any gear i choose....except reverse, unless i put both in reverse-that becomes another forward gear.....

oh. just the fact that you know how to operate and drive this amazes me
