ranger refit/build thread

thanks for makin that diagram dude, i understand that whole system so much better now, and thats awesome, i woulda never ever thought of somethin like that lol

like they say,a pictures worth a thousand words....and i don't type too fast,so a thousand words would take a while.

haha, but thats a ingenious system, how does it do crawlin? i imagine its geared down pretty low?

the math is all a few posts back.

Did you just cut the hex head off the 1" bolt and weld it in the tube?

yup....it's quite a long bolt so it was welded at the cut end,as well as plug welds on it's length.the spring perches are set behind the center of the diff,so there is a fairly large rotational load on the diff.this is why the nylon bushing is used on the backside...on the lower links the nylon bushing is on the forward side.the nylon is remarkably durable-considering what it's been through, the bushings are in pretty good shape.

Does this make your truck front wheel drive when not in 4wd then?

no,rear wheel....unless i want it to be front wheel.the functions on the transfer case are split so i can run either output in either high or low range,or neutral, and any combination of these.so i could run the front in high range and the rear in low if i so chose.

makes for a lot of choices.....between the t-cases and the trannys it would be really hard to steal.most people just look in at all the shifters and don't even want to try to figure out how it all works.

DAMN, that means you have to clutch from 1st gear to overdrive, which is 15th gear:icon_surprised: lol

haha ya you could lock it in all low and by some chance they did manege to put it in gear you could come out an hour later and it would still be in the parking lot about 10 feet away from where you parked it.

need to bounce some o/d ideas off of ya:D

there's a lot more than 15 gears, but in normal driving it's just the 5.the rest are ranges, just like the low range on your t-case.

yup.

Not counting the Tcases, I was figuring 3 trannies, 5 gears each, 15 forward gears, and yeah, I know all but one trans would stay in 4th/5th....Kool setup though, I might use an EB 3 speed manual as my doubler...hmmm.....
