4x4 5.0 swap with pics!

Yeah I've got it; any thing in specific you need pics of? I can post some up tomorrow morning. An I'm going dual electric as well. I've been looking for taurus fans but I'm not paying $100+ per fan if I can help it.

The taurus E-fan is about 4.5 inches deep, but it will blow the snot right through your radiator!! I don't have that much room, so I'm going with dual 10" fans I found at summit, they flow 1000cfm each and are only 2.5" deep, and at a price of $45 each, its hard to beat...I have a Taurus E-fan if your interested and will fit your setup....

That looks nice and clean! what fans are you running?

An SVT, thats still a concern of mine but from mock up i think i have plenty of room. if not ill be going with the shallow pull fans as well. Yeah you can shoot me a PM about the taurus fan.

BTW, no updates on here for a while because well, nothings changed on the Ranger other than the 37s are finally mounted.. my FRIGGIN motor is still at the machine shop...im BEYOND pissed by now. called today and was given some excuse about him being on vacation. the labor for installing the lower end of my 302 better be cheap or free.

oh and uh....i may be cheating on the Ranger just a little..... may or may not posses a HEEP now. Bought a stock '89 cherokee for my trail rig. I've fixed all rust, hurculined the interior, scored a set of almost new 33x12.50 MTRs on D-windows for next to nothing, got a safari snorkle NIB for next to nothing, 6" lift being picked up later this week, and doing some body work on it before i rattle can it flat tan. Oh and got a rolled over '89 with less than 100k on the odometer. All the above for less than $1500....SCORE!

I havent read the whole thread in a hwile, you might have planned for this already. But some of the E fans that are out there draw alot more amperage than our stock rbvs can handle. You might have to upgrade your alt's.

Already got that taken care of:icon_thumby: Powermaster 130A 3G alt

Same here, got a stock explorer 130 amp and my 10" fans only draw 7 amps each, and put out 1000CFM each:icon_surprised: I got a hole lot done today....I need to figure out/find an adapter for a stock 5.0L oil filter, as my motor had the oil cooler and a regular oil filter will not spin on to the block....Other than the oil filter dilema I think I'm ready for a first time start!!
I got my radiator figured out as well....I was able to keep everything close to stock, didn't have to cut any of my core support, and was also able to keep my condensor ( my build is setup to keep factory AC)...I have my AC lines at the shop getting made, I got to make some braided lines to run my power steering, transmission cooling/filter lines, and I should be ready to take her for a test drive!!

Im jealous! last time i was on here i dont think you were even doing a swap now your even past me lol

Lol, Don't get me wrong, your doing a lot more work than I am. I didn't go through a whole rebuild...I took the donor motor and trans and set it in my truck...As far as I know I am the first to do a complete writeup on installing an explorer 5.0L motor into a 95-97 ranger...I know others have done the swap before, but I have not seen anyone use the explorer electronics...I had all my research done and was hoping to have this installed and running in one day, well I ran into problem after problem after problem...I'm about 2 weeks into my project, and if not for 3 other projects going on, I could have done it in a week's time...Now that I know "the formula", I have another 96 ranger that I'm thinking of doing the swap to and trying it in only 2 days time...There's a small chance I'll have her running today, I have a couple vacuum lines and the oil filtering to work on, then once all the parts come in, I can take her for her first test drive:yahoo:

Pics of the reservoir and pump from the 4.6 the hydroboost came from:

Sorry they're crappy dark cellphone pics; i just remembered you asked for tthem haha. If you need better let me know. May I ask how you plan to possibly run that pump if thats what your thinking about? I want to run it if i can but have no clue how to attach it to the 5.0

Actually I think I am running that same pump on my 5.0L....Lol, I'm using the explorer motor (to my knowledge no one has tried an explorer 5.0L swap on a pre 98 truck, so I'm the first...That's another thing that is taking me so long with my swap, I'm doing an extensive writeup on it and hopefully it'll make the Tech library so others can have more knowledge of doing an explorer swap into 95-97 trucks...So far I have a total of 99 pics to date and I'm not finished yet:icon_surprised: Anyways, I was thinking of the resevior as I think it has dual return ports (two small ports and one 1/2" or so size port), but the mounting pads are different...The pump however I may be interested in, I got to check if mine has the same bolt pattern...

Reviving this from the Dead! Motor's almost ready to drop into the ranger for good. Shortblock is fully assembled and ready to go. GT40s are torn apart getting new hardware and a valve job, then its time to start throwing it together. Also Picked up a standard rotation water pump from a '88 crown vic today to put on it.

Non-motor wise: Picked up a set of fiberglass front fenders locally for $100 and got a tire under the truck to see what it'll look like with the 37's..

Looking good so far!! I finally got both my build thread and V8 swap thread uploaded, and have about 300 miles on the swap so far, check it out! :icon_thumby:

I def will! I glanced through some of the posts in your thread earlier but its too late right now for me to focus enough to read the entire thing! I'll save that for at work tomorrow!

Yeah, I did all of my V8 swap pics in the very first post so it wasn't scattered through pages of the thread, the rest is fenders cut, hydroboost, custom reservior, custom bumpers, sliders, bigger tires, a LOT bigger axles.......
