Crawlin's Build Thread

Thanks.
The driveshaft still rubs but only at extreme stuff on the driver's side. Ran slaughterhouse gulch not long ago and didn't hear it chirp at all. If I kept this setup I would switch to the steel shaft that has a smaller diameter.

I picked up a cheap rear dana 60 30 spline full float axle. Its already geared 5:38 and has a lockright

how cheap? I would recommend upgrading it to 35spline, otherwise you arent much better of than your 8.8. Either grab a spool or a locker and get some shafts. I also think on the FF axles you have to bore the spindles. (didnt have that problem with my SF 35spline 60)

either way it gets me into a 8 lug axle thats already geared and locked. Im not terribly concerned about breaking a shaft under the weight/torque load of a ranger or a BII, might eat those words when its on 42's so Im heading to the junkyard later this week and ill be looking for a t case as well as a rear ff setup with 1.5" axle shafts. upgrading to 35 spline and boring tubes is more than I plan on putting into this axle.

good luck. I couldnt find a single one in the time I searched. So i just got a SF 60.

Wow you guys must have it tough, I know of atleast 3 FF SRW D70s in local U-pull it yards around here. plus piles of 14bolts and 10.25s.

we are talking about D60's. I didnt want those bulky axles, I specificly wanted either a D60 or a 9" rear, and the 60 was cheaper to build 35spline.

70s, and sterlings and 14b's are a dime-a-dozen.

I also found a manual 1354 case out of a 3rd gen ranger in the parts yard today. Got a good price too.:icon_thumby:

14 bolt is a good choice, shave the pig and turn the ring gear, make an orb or traction and walla you have an axle that will take what ever you want it too.

Are you planning on using the "lower" shift boot that goes around the tcase and transmission shifter? (I really need one)

I needed to make some repairs so I can go wheeling, and keep the 2.9 chuggin til the motor swap
replaced my water pump, heater hose, lower rad hose, fan clutch, t-stat.
I still need a new fan as mine is cracked all over but I couldnt hand over $123
dollars to the stealership for a new one and the cheapo napa fan didnt fit at all. Ill hit the pick and pull this week.
