1999 Ranger SAS - Full Width D44 Coil Setup

Here is a picture of mine before I went full hydro. That is the stock 4x4 arm, and you can see what i mean by putting it on top.

what is that type of steering steup your running? i want to research it more. plus i've never seen it on a TTB front end. any reason?

this is a Dana 44 Solid Front Axle, not a TTB. TTB's went away I believe at the end of 97? This is a '99.

This used to have an IFS, but all of that has been completly stripped out.

As far as type of steering, its classified as a crossover steer.

i have all the correct parts to hook up the HP and LP line for the power steering! had to overnight them so i'd have them today... o well... got them and they fit. it'll be a busy night!

last night, cut up that coil/shock bucket, so we can fab up the new mount for the shocks that i just got the other day.

so steering "should" be working tonight. and then hopefully at least the pieces will be tack welded into place for the new shock mount!

things didn't go quite exactly as planned. hooked things up and steering was f'ed. ended up contacting the place i bought the gearbox from, found out i was hooking the high pressure line up to the low pressure side of the gearbox.

fixed that, but i have a leak at the fitting i put into the gearbox that goes to an AN6 fitting. so on monday i found a place i'm gonna call and talk to. wondering if the ford steering pump uses a metric fitting instead and/or an o-ring fitting. gruff. hey... at least the gearbox works properly with the lines hooked up properly!

ended up cutting off part of the coil/shock bucket. gotta fab it up to mount the new shocks.

i see light at the end of the tunnel. it MUST be done before April 17th weekend for a small bog in my own back yard.
 
Some background history, before the next set of photos. The 95 F150 buckets didn't quite work how we wanted it. Sooo... we cut off the shock mounts and fabbed up our own. Also, we converted from using "stud" to "eye" :-)

After the shock buckets were done, everything was bolted up and took for a small test drive in my backyard. :yahoo:

No 4x4 yet... so it kinda got stuck. I dont have any pictures of it yet, but... we ripped off the stock front drive shaft and its funky coupler to the t-cash. hacked it off, put a plate on the front of it and bolting and welding a yoke to the plate, which then all that will be bolted back up to the t-case.

At which point, we'll be able to put a normal drive shaft up there that can drop lower then the stock thing.

Looks fantastic dude. What kind of back spacing you running on those wheels. Somebody made a comment on the pitman arm. I think they were mistaken. You would want to get a pitman arm that moved the joint up as to match the track bar and drag link angles. Ive been told if there not the same then death wobble could occur. Not for sure on the death wobble thing but I also understand the reasoning for wanting the angles the same and its a good one.

Looks fantastic. I will be following suit here shortly. I have the axles just have to stuff them in there.

so far, from the on property driving i have done with it.. it runs really smooth! :-) just gotta put it all back together tomorrow. i have been priming and painting the shit out of everything.

been letting all the paint to cure over before putting it back together. recieved the power steering part today! seems to be the correct fitting. i'll find out when everything gets put back together as to whether it leaks or not...

i need to go register the damn thing now.. so i can get it out on the roads... :-)
 
that might be a stock 2wd arm, the 4x4 arm drops. You could try flipping your drag link to the top of that one though.

i was thinking flipping it on top of his current one would work the best, looks like it should put is drag link in proper alignment.

looks good, cant wait to see finished pics.

Now, there are a few things still to do... I have a saginaw steering pump on order right now. an axle vent for the ford 9" (for the day i just used a barb fitting... but i wanted the right thing in the end).

then i need to get the truck out to a shop and have them do a front end alignment on the truck. still need to lift the rear about an inch or few.

once all is said and done, the frame height will be at the max level for michigan. bumper height i will have to correct with a custom bumper.

it drove ok on the road, but like i said, front end is not in alignment and there is air in the lines for power steering.

o... still need to hook up the rear shocks.

next project will be getting the mustang back on the road. after thats finished, i'll be doing a 302, C6, NP205 swap into this same ranger! :-)
 
Where did you get you stainless brake lines for the front?
