its just more surface area to move more are, and some like the L5 can push it around just fine. having a sq 10 is like having %125 of a regular 10, but if you have to time, id see if you can hear it in action. for the most part, all subs will sound slightly different for all sorts a reasons like wrms, shape of the sub, cone material, size, how much surround there is.

Alright guys, Im finally getting this stereo thing squared away. Here's what i've chosen so far.

Speakers front and rear:

My box im still a little unsure. Im most considering the first one of these two:

Im also starting to think i need a new HU. I'm basically using all new components. Im still going to use my old amps though.

What would you guys recommend as a reasonable HU to compliment my set up?

glad you choose the polk speakers.

the sub is fine.

the boxes are a little big for the sub. you want a box with samller cubic feet so the sub will have more punch to it.

but if those are the only 2 to get. the second one was better.

and for a headunit. im strictly a pioneer man. but im not diggin there newer models. and there good stuff will run over 200.00

thanks for the ping man, but im actually gonna keep it, foud a use for it. but i would jump on it in a heart beat. for that price. got mine when it first came out for $250, and hands down the best HU i have gotten. i dont do dvd players and sat radio. but that HU has everything you need for secondary and primary sound stages. and if your running two amps your its awsome. digital cross overs, you can adjust your curves. and DTA setting. you can set each speaker for size. location, and type of vehicle. first hu i actully had to read the manual, just blew me away

ya. in my explorer. if i was doing a single din. that would be the stereo id get.

but i like the look of a double din better. so im putting this one in.

Im definitely going to take your guys' advice on that kenwood HU. That thing is loaded with features especially considering its modest price. I will definitely reconsider my sub box. I want that punchy sub sound so i will find a smaller box. I think this one would probably work given its CF. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_21331_Bass_Slammer_BS110S.aspx

Its awfully inexpensive though. I hope the sub doesn't blow the box up. I have to check the dimensions though. I want to make sure that thing will fit in my ex. cab and not effect my front seats. I like being able to lean back.

I was also wondering if anyone here has any experience with boston acoustics. Im primarily interested in the subs. Any opinions?

that box will be fine. its made of 3/4 mdf so it will hold fine.

boston acoustics makes good entry level stuff. its not for the full out bass head.

but they do make decent stuff.

I'm going to revive an ancient thread here but I'm still working on getting a system and need a new headunit since the one recommended above is discontinued. Any suggestions?
