Set your e-brake so you don't run into people who have nice(IMO) trucks.

luckily i have steel panels... this lady didn't... so i tore into her wheel well with my bumper hah.

so who forgot to set it? you or her?

One of my buddies has a busted taillight because he always parks his car in Neutral and he forgot to set his parking brake all the way. I don't understand why nobody parks their cars in gear...

I do, i don't really see the point of taking it back out of gear. The only thing that would make since is that they are afraid its gonna break or get stuck in gear (thinking of parking on the sanfansisco hills and what not?)

I always leave my truck in gear (even though it could pop out I suppose). My parking brake works great going forward, but if it's on the slightest slant backwards and I leave it in neutral it will start rolling on me with the parking brake on. I normally do both.

I don't see how the gear would break? If you are facing downhill parking in 1st is still going to hold your vehicle unless your clutch is toast. The gear holds the vehicle because is the clutch is locked to the flywheel the wheels will move in relation to the engine rotating (engine not rotating, no wheel movement). If breaking the trans by parking in gear were a concern shouldn't people be more concerned about parking automatic in park? I would think if the vehicle gets stuck in gear it would have happened regardless as t whether or not you parked in gear (bad shift linkage, etc). The only reasonable reason I've heard of is people forget that they parked in gear and don't push in the clutch when they try to start the car (not an issue in most newer cars), also that buddy who busted his taillight has a turbo and his car continues to run for a minute after he takes the key out of the ignition to allow it to cool.

If the motor in your vehicle is worn out and has really low compression it will roll even in gear. My dad's '80 F100 did it a few times on steep hills. I cannot imagine why anyone would ever park anything in neutral though. A few govt agencies used to recommend parking vehicles in reverse and my buddy's work makes him chock the wheels even on light duty trucks all the time.

yea right. parking brakes work great here in the winter. Leave it overnight with the parking brake set and in the morning everything is frozen solid. In gear and chock it is the only way to go.

whats a parking brake? i sure did cut that off when i replaced the spring shackels. i never used a parking brake in any car i've ever been in i just leave them in gear and leave it i never had a problem. yes i never park on any steep hills or anything so it doesnt matter mine does just fine.

i had a friend that installed a remote start on his car and left it in gear the car ran down his street till it drove in to next door's house

Ah HAHAHAHAHHAHA! :icon_rofl:

That would suck, but i can just imagine his face and thoughts as the truck just starts driving off. Sorry if i seem cruel.

^ That's why I leave mine in Neutral. It's nice getting into a nice warm truck in the winter. It'll take off if you leave it in gear, it'll jump but with the brake on it just stalls. I always just use the brake unless im on a steep hill or strange parking arrangement I'll use both, but I always make sure my parking brake is in good working order.

And a note to your friend, if you hit the button again the engine dies.

Your supposed to leave it in the lowest gear and set the brake.

You can't do without a parking brake if you go offroad.

my cousin parked his wrangler in neutral and the parking brake came off. the jeep rolled down a steep hill, between two houses and smashed into an exploder sitting on the next street. his insurance wasnt too happy.
