gas milage

well i know about the e85 bs but i thought there was a real wintermix /summermix gas that the average consumer didn't know about

There are summer and winter blends of fuel, but I don't know how much of the country actually uses them.

100% Gas

We have one place accross the river in Wisconsin that still sells pure gas. I tried three or four tanks (I don't remember exactly) a couple of years ago and surprised to get 1 to 1.5 MPG better. E10! What a waste of food.

it's a big cause of the global food shortages... but the hippie enviromentalists say its saving the planet... what? by killing the poor?

what jerk wads.

our older engines aren't designed to run with E10... that's why we get crappy mileage but the newer cars still get 20 something.

imagine if you will... a world of pure gas running on our new engines... they'd get 10% better economy! then imagine, the treatments the do to strip the fuel of sulfides to make it a "cleaner" exhaust cause us to loose fuel economy as well!

haha, the more they try to protect the environment the more it hurts it... the less economy the more we use... there is a trade off for better cleaner emmisions by playing with the fuel.

eviromentalism is good if you protect the wilderness... but if you try to squeeze every drop of pollution out of everything we do, then you just push it farther up the stream...

electric cars for example... that's great they are zero emissions but where will those electrons be coming from? 70% of America is powered by coal plants that are exempt from cleaning up their emissions, so since those are in rual areas... the coal plants will be increasing their load which increases their emissions, and shortens their lifespan... meaning our infrastructure will fail earlier than expected... so more tax increases.

there is always a newton effect to everything! unless you can have FREE clean energy there is no way we can save the planet.... so why waste money, time, and destroy our economy to just make America green... China is a booming industrial country... their pollution is worse than Americas EVER was... anything we do will be negated by them.

sorry about the rant... I really took this up stream on the mileage issue.

thanks for reading this if you did.

I have kept up with the mileage on my 08' ranger since the day I drove it off the car lot. Here is what I have found. first off, it is 4x4 xtra cab with a 4.0 and 4.10 gears. I have also increased the tire size to 265/75 R16's. My milage is this;
Mostly in town miles, 12mpg to 13mpg. My highway miles are 17mpg to 20mpg depending on the time I run above 65-70 M.P.H. I have not done ANY performance inhancements yet. These trucks are not the best at feul economy, but they do seem to be very reliable and trouble free. Being a jeep owner for years, I would say that STOCK, they get about the same gas milage. I'm looking into what performance inhancements really can help both feul economy and H.P. on our year truck. Keep up with the threads and maybe it will help both of us out!

Manual or Auto? 12-13 seems very low for a manual truck, I'm getting 17-18 75/25 city/highway driving...

i do all city driving. I calculated 11.7mpg. I get 320 km to a tank, when i go to my buddies, half my tank is highway kilometers, i go from 320 a tank, to 380. pretty significant. But still not good.

Sorry, I should of mentioned that in my post! My ranger has the 5 speed automatic trans.

Wow, I'm quite surprised to see ya'll with newer trucks getting lower gas mileage... Are the curb weights that much more significant?

No, that's why it's not called the 4R44E.

mines the 5 speed as well

Lot of you guys have SOHC engines, but I will post my OHV results anyway. My driving is about 5 miles to school, and 5 miles back, couple stop signs, but mainly open 60mph driving. I get about 15-17mpg average with that driving. But when I go on the freeway, which is not often at all, I can get about 25mpg cruising around 65mph.
2wd, reg cab, 4.0 OHV. 3.08 gears, the reason for the good mileage on the freeway. I have thought about switching to higher gears though, 3.73 or something for a little better acceleration, but I don't have a ton of money for gas now, so I think I will keep what I have.

Oh, I'm sure some of you know this, the OHV does good in real low RPM numbers. But the SOHC lugs below 2000 RPM or so. Gets best mileage between 2000-2300 RPM from what I hear.
