Removing a seized screw?

Hmmm...maybe you guys got shitty screws. lol.

I always liked 'em.

Ya, the key to using them is QUALITY bits.....but torx pwn's everything else. I spent a while in montana/north dakota and couldn't get them, so I just brought them over the border? maybe it's just me ......

I use torx anywhere possible. If you get a good bit they rarely strip out. A few friends of mine that work construction prefer them too.

Back to the topic at hand,

Have you tried one of these?

I was thinking of getting one of these, but the screws are also pretty stripped to hell.

Weird, they're all over down here.

Hey, when did you become a mod? Can we call you 'his modness' now? :D

So does anyone mind to tell me how you get the dash out? The Haynes manual doesn't cover it.

Uhm, earlier this week = See Others Here

Don't know if I'm special enough to be called 'his modness', but sure, haha. Sorry, I've never had the dash out, just the component's bolted to it.

For the amount the director paid for them I doubt it, but he was stoned half the time so maybe.

The best way I've found to take things apart is to try to figure out how they went together, and work backwards. The top of the dash usually comes out first that should revel all the screws holding the top up, there are a few more on the sides and a few along the bottom.

Yeah, just read that a few minutes ago. Congrats! Same to all the other new mods

It's held in with screws, thankfully it's not a bunch of smoke and mirrors. It's vague, I did this about a month ago and my truck is no where near right now, I am thinking you'd need to pull the plastic trim pieces that run along the ashtray (becareful not to destroy your head light switch). I believe you'll need to remove the fake wood dash panel. The pad and metal piece that the speakers are in are connected. You'll need to remove all of the screws holding them in. Once the screws are out, it pulls forward. But you won't get far because the speaker hits the dash "frame" under the pad.

Yeah I tried removing the 4 dash pad screws and they are torqued down to hell. Tried with my drill and that couldn't even get them out.

Tried an Impact driver?? Or tap on the end of your screw driver it will break them loose alot of the time.

+1 0n the impact driver suggestion if you can get a straight shot; it's amazing what they can break loose. There are also screw drivers with special gripping ridges on the tips which about double the grip on stubborn screws. They are called "the claw" and are made by Vermont American.

One other way is to carefully cut a slot in the screw head with a small abrasive wheel and a Dremel tool.:headbang:

Well I finally got the speaker grill out, pretty hard though. I had to drill the heads out with the limited space I had. I totally destroyed the grill though, but I think I will pick a new one up tomorrow at the pick a part.

Does anyone know where to find speaker cover fabric? I think it will be easier and look better this way.
