I use torx anywhere possible. If you get a good bit they rarely strip out. A few friends of mine that work construction prefer them too.
Back to the topic at hand,
Have you tried one of these?

Ya, the key to using them is QUALITY bits.....but torx pwn's everything else. I spent a while in montana/north dakota and couldn't get them, so I just brought them over the border? maybe it's just me ......

Hmmm...maybe you guys got shitty screws. lol.
I always liked 'em.
Uhm, earlier this week = See Others Here
Don't know if I'm special enough to be called 'his modness', but sure, haha. Sorry, I've never had the dash out, just the component's bolted to it.

So does anyone mind to tell me how you get the dash out? The Haynes manual doesn't cover it.
It's held in with screws, thankfully it's not a bunch of smoke and mirrors. It's vague, I did this about a month ago and my truck is no where near right now, I am thinking you'd need to pull the plastic trim pieces that run along the ashtray (becareful not to destroy your head light switch). I believe you'll need to remove the fake wood dash panel. The pad and metal piece that the speakers are in are connected. You'll need to remove all of the screws holding them in. Once the screws are out, it pulls forward. But you won't get far because the speaker hits the dash "frame" under the pad.

Tried an Impact driver?? Or tap on the end of your screw driver it will break them loose alot of the time.
