So Ive been driving my ranger,99v6 3.0 btw, around alot more and been able to cruise around with different fan settings. I noticed that when I have the fan blowing, even if the a/c is off and its set to full hot. The a/c compressor kicks over for 1-2 seconds, then off, maybe 8-15seconds go by, and it does it again. and its this long cycle until I turn the blower to "off" So I constantly here the click of it turning on and off.

Sounds like a dirty connection maybe? or is that normal? don't seem normal at all to me

also where can I find a factory service repair manual for my truck? I don't see any on ebay, and I want a bigger, more elaborate one than chilton or whatever

I believe that the compressor should only cycle on when the defrost is selected on, as well as the a/c. Usually the cycle on/off means that the refergerent pressure is low, and in that case a pressure switch shuts it down to safeguard the compressor.

It sounds like it might be low... The compressor doesn't run that much anyway, but only 2 sec at a time does seem kind of quick... I believe it should run ~15 sec at a time... The compressor should definitely only be coming on if you are on A/C or Defrost...

i agree with the low pressure thing - what does it do when you actually turn on the a/c?

ill check that out later today. But ya, it kicks on no matter what i put it on, as long as its on and blowing any kind of air. I know it should only be on for defrost and a/c. but even just regular air

low pressure wouldn't cycle it if im not in ac or defrost tho correct? so maybe there is some electrical issue?

The A/C will cycle in ALL positions but "Face Only" and "Feet Only" Any other position turns on the A/C compressor.

I'll have to double check and see if its always off during those cycles, I don't think it is.

But is the cycle normal...2secs on 15 off? or should it be on always?

It won't always be on, but only running for 2 secs seems a little short... It should run for a little more than that (10-15 secs I believe)... You probably just need to recharge your system...

the heating and all that work fine, Its my A/C compressor kicking on for 2 seconds then off for 15, and so on

does it have r-134a ? can I do this myself? never done ac work before, don't have any gauges or anything, but dont kits come with them?

Yup, just go buy a recharge kit from Autozone... Get the one with the gauge, it comes in a box... I bought one last summer for something like $30...

I got the 18oz can with gauge for 22 bucks on sale at schucks/oreily's. first time ever playing with a/c wish me luck, im sure its easy. Hopefully this helps my a/c from cycling for only 2 seconds every 15

what side is the low pressure side? the one on the driver side by condenser?

ok so it might be just me or a faulty can. but i was pressing hard as hell on the button and it didnt seem like it was doing anything. with that short hose they give you its hard to shake the can like directions say. I ended up braking the button, it got stuck for a sec and started spraying shit in the air, then stopped 1 sec later. scared the shit out of me.

anyways, the gauge would go to 45psi when ac comp cycled off, when on it would drop to 25psi, then kick back on, and keep doing that. added, if it worked, 3-4minutes of charge, can takes 10-15minutes it says.

it now cycles like it should i think

5-8 seconds on, 5-8 seconds off. it does not cycle in off, or one feet only or front only. but it does the cycling in every other position.

I thought it was suppose to stay on always when ac was on max?
