dodge suburban?

Here it is, it's not the best picture, but it says Centurion right on the hood. Its an 88 and the picture sucks I know, but I was in my car and stopped for moment then took off before the dealer vultures could get me.

I guess I could have rolled down my window....

considering a 460 big block of the era put out an "anemic" 220 HP with only 360 ft-lbs of torque....ya a 200 HP diesel truck was impressive...especially when you consider the nearly 500ft-lbs the 1100 series could put out.

500ft-lbs is still respectable by todays standards.

A stock 460 may put out 220 in '76, but a 2wd baja chase truck with a boat anchor in the front could never beat a built gas engine of the day since off road vehicles need not have smog crap.

if you want to compare apples to oranges, lets look at a 1997 460. OBDII means a minimal loss in power due to emissions (no smog pump, inefficient 2-way pellet cats, etc).

and still, it only puts out 245HP with 400ft-lbs of torque.

If it wasn't for a Government loan, Dodge would not even be in existance in the near future.

Judging by the signs, Chrysler is definitely going to fall before the American auto industry recovers.

So, see? By this time next year, there probably won't be a Chrysler. Problems already solved.

THAT ENDS THE ARGUMENT!
How? I can go take a picture of a ranger right now with the front tire/rotor missing 3 miles down the road, does that prove anything? The Cummins is still a superior motor in every way (the cummins has had 1 major revision since it's been put into dodges 20 years ago, the powerstroke is on its 3rd major revision in 13 years), and in my experience the dodge is not an inferior truck, many aspects I like much better than the fords.

So your saying that a Stock Dodge lets say 3/4 ton would out run a stock Ford 3/4 ton? sorry I don't think so! I would be looking back in my rear view at ya. The powerstoke turns up so much quicker.(smaller connecting rods)

The cummins may be the better engine of the two, less moving parts, but the ford is the better truck.. Now that's not to say the PSD isn't a strong motor. I watched my buddy pull a dump loaded w/ logs sideways up a hill to get him unstuck w/ a PSD.

Ok the cummins has less moving parts which means a longer life? There is one problem the rest of the dodge as in the tranny cant handle the extra power. Ive know a couple people that have blown there tranny. As for ford thats probably the way I'm going to go. You can hardly find a dodge for cheap thats still in good condition. Ford has been building these things for a long time and have been a big seller unlike the older dodges (which is the only thing i can afford) As for the Chevy- Isuzu engines are actually pretty good. Chevy builds a good diesel engine too bad the rest the truck sucks.

yes but the deisels use a heaver duty trans than the gas engines , i know several people with cummins powered rams and they have never had a problem with their transmissions , and extreme , if you wish to continue on , a cat diesel engine owns a ford gas engine , anyday , until the end of time , period

well i love my rbv's , i love diesels too though , i really like the psd's and cat's , though i would consider a 4bt cummins for a swap into a ranger , we have to diesel work trucks , one is a 1995 F-Super Duty with the 7.3 and the other is a 1998 GMC 3500HD with the 6.5 , the 7.3 is a much better motor

You people compare the most stupid things. A current catapillar might be better than a gas, but any diesel in '76 was nowhere near the technolgy of a gas back then.

I have yet to find a daily driven powerstroke my '94 dodge couldn't outrun.

Why do you people always start an argument when I state facts, not opinions. International/ navistar has been trying to better the powerstrokes in fords since their debut in '94 and they keep taking steps back IMO. I'd take an IDI 6.9 or 7.3 anyday before a powerstroke. The dodge/ cummins contract was the best thing that ever happened to the light duty truck market. Not one engine design flaw.

"powerstroke" is just a name. the 7.3 "powerstroke" is the same engine as the 88-93 7.3 and 83-87 6.9 non-turbo IDI's. they are all made by navistar and are all related.
