What did YOU do today?

Yesterday morning I went down to the basement for something and there was water on the floor near the water heater.
****, now I have to get a water heater. Further investigation revealed that the pressure relief valve was leaking.
So at least I saved $500.
Conveniently the plastic pipe I attached to it cracked at the top, probably from the heat, so water was running down the outside of the pipe and onto the floor instead of the floor drain where the pipe was aimed.
Shut the water off to the heater when I left for work, pick up a new valve at Home Depot at lunch, replaced it when I got home.
Disclaimer: I am by no means a plumber but I know a little bit of stuff.

Vapor lock because of the heat?
It does have a return fuel system but cycling the key a few times to push fresh fuel to the rail wasn’t helping. It was cranking slow despite a good battery/wires/starter. I’m suspecting it was somewhat of a heat soak problem but I’ve never had it do this to me except the one time I overheated it a bit and that was when I blew a lower radiator hose and didn’t realize it years ago.

Of course the temp gauge on the dash hasn’t worked for 2-3 years and on the 300 it’s virtually inaccessible on the back of the motor. Or so the internet tells me. I know changing the one on the thermostat housing didn’t change anything for the dash gauge, lol. I will say that I know it didn’t smell hot/overheated this time. Kinda wish I would have had my IR temp gun with me but I didn’t think of taking it along. I was getting low on fuel though so maybe the fuel in the tank wasn’t quite cool enough to counteract the heat soak on the motor end.

With the heat soak problem I’ve been having with the Choptop lately I’ve been questioning underhood temps, especially on something with headers. Maybe I need more ventilation like a cowl induction hood or something since nothing I own is stock for long.

You could wrap the headers. That is supposed to help with engine bay heat. Not exactly the easiest thing to do with the headers on the engine, but considering the alternatives, will it be all that much extra work to try that first?

I've heard of people raising the back of the hood with some longer bolts and washers to good effect. Been considering it myself.

Mowed and edged my front and back yard. Also my pretty neighbors. Now I am sittin here drippin wet. Shower soon. Then cigar and brewski.

Plug chop tuning a single cyl engine. I'm out of jets and its too hot to keep going.

WTH happened there?

Today was the day my wife's best friend Kisses said her last goodbye. It's never a happy moment, but the little girl was in her final hours due to cancer, and while our home is notably silent we are glad that she's no longer suffering. I'm just happy she was able to have such a long life, and brought my wife years of joy. She had just turned 16.

Sorry for your loss. It's never easy.

tried giving the chickens a ceiling fan for the coop, they didn’t like it and stayed outside, guess it looked like a predator above them so back in the garage it went. Dug out my old summit 8.8 diff cover that was on my green ranger 10+ years ago, put it on the f150 & gave it some fresh oil, think it needed it. now im gonna chill in the pool awhile.

You cut away the threads on the plug to read the soot stain on the porcelain insulator. Location and color of stain informs carburetor tuning.

Spent most of the day cutting and loading firewood, all oak... filled the bed of the F350 and maybe 3' deep in a 6'x12' trailer... pretty sure it's around 7000lb of wood... While cutting things up we made me a splitting block to put by the shed... it's gotta be 300+ pounds.

We counted the rings on the tree as close to the trunk as we've gotten so far and about 25' up it is around 90!

Oh and the oiler doesn't work on my new to me saw so I might be able to clean it up, if not parts are available. On the plus side the Echo saw I got over the winter was a trooper, went through like 3 tanks in it.

I had today off, worked harder on my day off than I do at work lol.

Moved the combine and put the platform on the WD to move tree branches that have fallen in my yard. Kinda neat the combine needed neither ether nor plugged into day.

Backed the B up to the sickle mower, look at that A1 backing job! Also thanks younger me for putting the bolts back so I know where I needed to go.

What did YOU do today?

I got it mounted up with virtually no fuss which was fun, aired up the tire and got up to the garage.

What did YOU do today?

Got it all greased and ready to go whenever the grass is ready.

Need to snag a wheel barrow tire or something, it holds air for awhile but has never looked very healthy...

What did YOU do today?

Ran into Taco Bell for lunch and the Ranger made a friend to reminisce with while I ate.

What did YOU do today?

Then I trimmed and mowed as much of the yard as I could with the trees the way they are.
