What did YOU do today?

Yesterday morning I went down to the basement for something and there was water on the floor near the water heater.
****, now I have to get a water heater. Further investigation revealed that the pressure relief valve was leaking.
So at least I saved $500.
Conveniently the plastic pipe I attached to it cracked at the top, probably from the heat, so water was running down the outside of the pipe and onto the floor instead of the floor drain where the pipe was aimed.
Shut the water off to the heater when I left for work, pick up a new valve at Home Depot at lunch, replaced it when I got home.
Disclaimer: I am by no means a plumber but I know a little bit of stuff.

Vapor lock because of the heat?
It does have a return fuel system but cycling the key a few times to push fresh fuel to the rail wasn’t helping. It was cranking slow despite a good battery/wires/starter. I’m suspecting it was somewhat of a heat soak problem but I’ve never had it do this to me except the one time I overheated it a bit and that was when I blew a lower radiator hose and didn’t realize it years ago.

Of course the temp gauge on the dash hasn’t worked for 2-3 years and on the 300 it’s virtually inaccessible on the back of the motor. Or so the internet tells me. I know changing the one on the thermostat housing didn’t change anything for the dash gauge, lol. I will say that I know it didn’t smell hot/overheated this time. Kinda wish I would have had my IR temp gun with me but I didn’t think of taking it along. I was getting low on fuel though so maybe the fuel in the tank wasn’t quite cool enough to counteract the heat soak on the motor end.

With the heat soak problem I’ve been having with the Choptop lately I’ve been questioning underhood temps, especially on something with headers. Maybe I need more ventilation like a cowl induction hood or something since nothing I own is stock for long.

You could wrap the headers. That is supposed to help with engine bay heat. Not exactly the easiest thing to do with the headers on the engine, but considering the alternatives, will it be all that much extra work to try that first?
