Battling Electrical Problems

88 wouldnt be MAF regardless. That didnt hit till 90 IIRC

@ty.forestcom best thing to do is just pull your ECM out (it’s easy) and get the numbers off it....or post a pic
Sweet, here’s what I see. Mine doesn’t match any on rockauto

Actually according to google your current ECM is federal

I was under the impression it was MAF back to 88 in Cali. Sorry about that.

Still stands as a way to tell on the 2.9 for 90 I guess.

Big news everybody. Ecu is good, may still replace with a manual one in the future, does it really make a difference?

I powered an injector wire with a fuse strait to battery. Cranks right up and stays running. I somehow need to find where they lead to I can make a permanent fused power from battery. Only weird thing, usually she starts by just touching the key. Now it starts like a regular truck, could this just be its cold and has been cranked a bunch the last few days?

Being banked, wouldn't that only power one side? So running on 3 cylinders.

One injector wire can power all 6 if ran to battery. I traced them back to the main red at a connector, connect is toast. I am going to cut and splice from a good section and run all 6 to battery with fuse. I will try to run them to starter relay first, could be a cleaner result. She’s a show car but only when she feels like it. Was thinking I’d miss a show tonight but may make it after all.

Manual ECU does indeed make a difference when you have a manual. Lower idle and in my case actually freed up a bunch of power. Not sure how much of that was the damage to the computer but I noticed more go on the butt dyno and a lot smoother acceleration. Actually took me a couple weeks of driving it to get used to the change.

I thought so, too. But I do have a MAF. I don't think the MAF is evidence of CARB compliance.
MAF is evidence of CARB compliance only in the 2.9

Your truck is a Federal as indicated on the core support and is not, as Rusty put it, a 2.9

I’m a little hazy on it since it’s been awhile, but I think the MAF did appear on CARB compliant rigs earlier than 90 because in 90 the 4.0 and 3.0 appeared and had a MAF at the Federal level. I could be mistaken though. There were some strange things that went on with the 2.9 through its course. The early 2.9 had EGR and it was later eliminated. Almost like that motor was a test bed to see what worked and how well, lol
