[Disclaimer; this entire reply is a discussion concerning tools for the removal of electrical wire insulation.]

Most of the time, if you're cutting and removing strands accidentally when you strip wire, it's because you're using the wrong stripper hole. The holes for stranded wire are slightly bigger than for solid wire. Usually, there will be 2 rows of labels on the stripper, one on each side of the holes. So, if it says 16ga on the stranded side, it will be 18ga on the solid side, same hole.

I also have seen really cheap strippers with inaccurately sized holes. I even have one.

I don't know if either of these problems fit your situation. Just thought it worth mentioning for general education.

This had the clear insulation, it was really soft, almost gummy. I wasn't removing a couple strands, I was removing all the strands. The next hole bigger just stretched the insulation.

I have had the strippers forever and they work great for normal wire, I blame the wire. :dntknw:

I don't do much audio stuff, maybe there are better strippers out there for it.

Tentatively I think the major wiring stuff is done. Distributor lock is finger tight. Fan stuff is wired, tach is wired. Stuff needs tidied up, I need dial in the dizzy and lock it down and put the plug wires and air filter on it... it is getting dangerously close to attempt a start up.

My goal is Friday. My probably lofty goal is pulling the camper with it a week from Friday. We shall see how that works out....

Sounds like cheap or really old wire. I've dealt with really old wire where the insulation got hard and stuck to the strands so nad it couldn't be stripped off. In that case, It's usually best to reolace it.

It was brand new lol.

metric wire & s.a.e. strippers?

Metra brand IIRC :icon_rofl:

Oh well. If I would have waited I would have had all the trimmings from the stuff I won't be using off the "additional wires" harness. After I finished the idiot light project I moved onto that and had enough from the efan/tach wiring alone I could have just used that for the idiot light. :black_eye:

Bigger one has to be a 90 because there is a crossmember right there. It is still tight but it did work.

When dealing with wiring that has very soft insulation I normally end up using a whole the size smaller then the wire to cut the insulation (unfortunately this usually scores the conductors as well), then step up to the correct size hole for actually pulling the insulation off.

Some times I'll also strip in small sections if the insulation is stuck to the wire. If I want to strip half inch, I take it off in three or four goes. Happens a lot with old light fixtures I notice.

Yeah, I do that with the really hard junk from a parts store too.

Both are 6AN right?

Whatever you want to do for hose fittings. I used 06AN fittings and 06 or 3/8 hose.

One fitting on the pump is bigger than the other. I think the pressure one is bigger (the 90*)

Gotcha, before i hit order, the 9/16 6AN (90 degree) and 3/8 6AN is the 2 quick connect fittings i need?
For reference the aces kit im buying the inline fuel kit, those hoses are 6AN afaik.
