Timing belt R&R while I'm swapping engine. Rear and front seals. Now getting the crank gear off. The pulley was nice enough to slide off easy.
I arranges a slide hammer with a finger that slipped behind the crank gear but it didn't budge.

There's another thread where a guy made a tool but I'm tired of that. A special tool is mentioned but said it's rare.

what are the alternatives...I'll look for the special tool...just a puller...on the small side? I usually rely on heat to expand a bore, but it's tight in there and forcing a smoking hot gear out of a crevice like that seems ugly.

I could just leave that seal in there. It's oily all around but can't say the front seal was dripping....sure don't want to go through this with the engine in.

One of the posts recently had an amazon link to what he used, pulling even would probably work better on that than trying to use one of the hooks on a slide hammer...

that may be my thread. if you read the beginning of it, there is a wiper arm puller than works perfect for removing the pulley

Advanced Adjustable Wiper Arm Puller - OTUAYAUTO Battery Terminal Removal Kit, Heavy Duty Windshield Wiper Remover Tool

I didn't see that thread but this might be the answer.....I wonder if Advance lends the item? They usually have better tools than O'Reilly...which didn;t have anything helpful

I can't claim there is nothing else out there that'll work. That said, I spent a lot of time trying various steering wheel pullers etc. The problem is that there is so little space in there between the aluminum housing. After several days of buying and trying, I found that thing in a drawer and was shocked that it fit and was built well enough to actually pull it off.
Check this thread, I put some photos in down thread so you can see how it fits
