Thought my new torque wrench was set to 8ftlb but it broke the threading on my transmission filter bolt thread. The threads came out as a spiral on the bolt when I unscrewed it. Can I add some lock tight 243 to the bolt + this spiral of broken threading?

No. If the threads came out, there is nothing left to grip.

Could you post a picture of the area where the damaged hole is? Might help some of us visualize exactly what is broken.

Some common ways to repair damaged threads include;
  • Drill and tap the hole for the next size larger fastener
  • Drill, tap and install thread insert so that the original size fastener can be used
  • Weld the hole closed, Drill and tap to original size
  • Close it all up and sell the truck real fast to some dumb sucker. (Just kidding)

Hopefully can post a photo tomorrow. The issue is it looks like the threading starts above the valve body so I’d have to remove the valve body to get to the thread hole.

Ok. I think I understand better now. I think drilling and installing a Helicoil type thread insert is your best move.

was the original bolt too short?
how many threads were covered with the stripped remnants?
does the hole go farther than the stripped section?

maybe, just maybe you can get lucky and put a longer bolt in.

Thankfully this worked. Put a longer bolt and was able to tighten it up 👍
